Globecar Summit
Hello, first time posting here. Impressed with past posters and their knowledge and willingness to share.
I have a 2020 Summit 5.4 and have just experienced water ingress in the toilet fanlight. Others have experienced same I see. Obviously worried about damage/mould etc. and need to mend immediately. For the life of me I cannot get a reply ( email and telephone messaging ) from dealer - who will remain unnamed for time being- to these questions 1) what is the water ingress warranty on a Globecar/ Possle? 2) how do I effect an emergency repair prior to proper repair? 3) As this is a known fault with this van from this factory, why on earth was preventative maintenance and inspection not advised. ?

Much appreciate if anyone can throw light on this and also how to get the courtesy of a reply from a dealer who gladly took my 60 grand.

I would contact Globecar direct to complain about the dealer and ask them about the warranty.
The Water ingress warranty will be at least 5 years but may be 6 or 10 years. Providing you have advised the dealer of the fault within the warranty period you should be covered for repairs.

Thanks Lenny. Will try GC direct. They should be interested in the potential brand damage done by a non responsive dealer.

We had water ingress into the bathroom from the skylight in our 2023 globecar summit shine last year. Via phone and email I agreed with SMC I would seal it with silicone until they got it for the first annual service, when they took the skylight out completely and refitted it. It was obvious in photos taken when removed that the factory had failed to run sealant all the way round and so when parked nose downhill water ran inside. Been ok since. Regarding SMC, I will have to chase this week after emailing about another warranty issue over a week ago and hearing nothing so far. Of course the guy I emailed could have been on holiday this week.

Thanks Ian. I am still waiting for a reply despite requests. I also have done a temp repair. I gather from SMC (Sales) that Globecar have a 6 year water ingress warranty , so I will by email and most likely registered mail be making a formal warranty claim. Another Globecar dealer advised that if it was a vehicle sold by them they would do a complete remove, clean and re-seal, so it will be interesting to see how this is treated by SMC. Wonder if they review these pages?!

I got tired of the lack of enthusiasm and professionality of my dealer so I wrote a negative comment on Google. The next day I got a phone call from the owner of the business begging me to remove the comment and I now get a reasonable response whenever I need it.

I'd first ring and say you will hold until service dept can speak to you, mentioning you've had difficulty getting anywhere. If still fobbed off ask to speak to a manager, because you'd prefer not to give bad review.

Thanks for advice. Still no response. Have now sent formal warranty claim. Fortunately I have legal expenses insurance and will not hesitate to go that route. As a mystery shopper to dealer’s sale team I was told 6 years water ingress warranty in place. Impossible to find Globecar/Possl Germany contact details. Well hidden outfit. Anyone know any better?

After sending SMC an email on 15 April regarding a warranty issue and hearing nothing back, I rang today and spoke to Howard in servicing. He quickly found the email I had sent him, and promised to get things going send the pics etc to Globecar to get warranty approval. So hopefully things are moving. I will ring in 3 weeks to check for a response from Globecar (service is in August). When I asked (nicely) why nothing had happened before today, the answer was just that they are busy 😒 It was a similar story last year, not great but with nudging things did get done.

Glad things are moving for you. I have finally this afternoon got a reply from SMC servicing after a polite but firm email this morning. In direct contradiction of their own sales team who quoted 6 years water ingress warranty, I have now been told it’s 2 years along with habitation and vehicle. This I find hard to believe and if true raises questions about sales team and of course the marketability of Globecar, when other manufacturers offer 5,6 or 10 years.
Does anyone have written/online information of the Globecar/Possl water ingress policy please? I have drawn a blank. Thanks

Wonder if they review these pages?
They do. If ever there is any remotely libellous, dealers and sometimes makers, are quick to contact me. They know that literally hundreds of thousands of people read these posts and anything negative can hurt their reputation. It would have to be seriously libellous for me to remove the posts, so mostly I don't, that doesn't stop them asking.

Very often they will ask the person involved to get the posts deleted once the complaint is satisfied. Sometimes I do that, very often I don't.

Curiouser and curiouser. Friend looking to upgrade his Adria rang SMC yesterday, asked after water ingress policy. Was quoted 5 years. (Ref my 6 year quotation).
SMC servicing by email said 2 years and are happy to quote for a full fanlight removal , clean and re-seal. I have pointed out the inconsistency of the dealer’s response and the unlikelihood of Globecar/Possl opening themselves up for such a negative brand image if a) the dealer can’t agree warranty within itself and b) other brands are 5,6 or 10 years.
Now will offer SMC the chance to repair under warranty or will go to an independent repair centre and Small Claims Court to recover costs. Simply does not have to be like this. One wonders if Globecar, with a known water ingress issue from that factory, are in damage limitation mode for warranty claims, but don’t see the longer term potential for brand image.
Someone else on the forum mentioned the SMC service folk and to be fair I have had good service over the past few years. One wonders what pressure they are under from on high…
