Can anyone tell me how the engine water can get into the sump?

Or someone puts water in the oil filler by mistake? Unlikely, but not unheard of. However it happens, its not good news for an engine.

whatever you do don't run the engine until you have found the source

A faulty oil cooler could allow this to happen.

Don't know if this applies to your engine but some engines have a core plug in the cylinder head which can corrode and allowing water to escape into the oil.
