We've recently bought a 20 yr old Ford Transit Autosleeper. It has hot water/shower, but we can't figure out how to get the hot water heater working.Don't know where the hot water system is, or whether it's been taken out. As you can guess, we're new to campervans so any help/advice would be greatly appreciated! (It has a zig unit) Thanks in anticipation.

Hi and welcome to the fun.

somewhere in the van, could be in a cupboard, wardrobe or on a wall, there will be a control switch for the boiler.

probably looks like a domestic light switch plate with push buttons and a neon light or two.
this will be the gas control....simply push the on button.

also look for a switch plate with a red neon light.
this will be the 230v electric element switch, if fitted with an electric/gas boiler.

hope you get it working and happy new year to you.

At 20 years old it might be the instantaneous type of water heater, usually flued through the roof, and these don't have a separate control or electric option. As the flue usually goes straight up, if you can see the flu on the roof (usually looks a bit like a mushroom) then the heater will be below it. At least one van had the heater behind a door in the shower itself, which was quite well hidden.

Hope you find it soon.
