Hello

It looks like i have a leak under my Adria Twin next to the grey water tank. I noticed this after filling my fresh water tank. Any ideas on why?

Thanks

Frost damage?

We are in Cornwall and haven’t had any frost yet this year. Do you know what that pipe is for?

The dump valve will open up at 4-5c

So this only happens if the van is left unused and its a temp controlled switch?

I think there are two types of automatic dump valves, one has an electrical supply and the other one which I have is mechanical and will automatically dump the water out of the heater if the temperature drops to 4 or 5 deg centigrade.
It just needs resetting.

Hi Will just checked and the tank is empty. As Daveandsan suggested it’s probably this frost protection i never knew i had.

You may be looking for something like this TrumaFrost Control Valve at the back of the right side of this image a little button pops out at around 4-5 degrees C, when the temperature is above this press the button in and turn the blue knob at the top of the valve to re-set it. I think if you undo another knob on a pipe which may be next to this Valve and undo your taps you will completely drain the system and won't get frost damage. When Filling open the taps close both the knob and the Valve (if you have the two valves). Fill with water run the taps etc all the air should then be expelled from the system and you are back up and running.

(if you have a handbook it should outline all of this)

Hi jasbadboy photo of valve from rear.
Turn blue switch on top 90 degrees and press blue button in on back, you will hear it click.
To dump water from heater just turn lever on top 90 degrees.

Its well worth paying £15 and joining the forum because you only get five free posts.

Hopefully u r sorted from Coolcats post.
On my van that valve is tucked away down by the bottom of the boiler with various pipes and wires obstructing a clear view. Need to feel for the blue button on the back side as I cant see it.

Question please. Is there any way to adjust this valve. It has dumped the water out when cold but the other day we drove up to the Lakes, parked up and then noticed water pouring out from under the van. The dump valve had come open, as there was still loads of water in then it is unlikely i has started until we parked, have we done something wrong for this to happen. Also is there any way to override this as we will be using our van in the winter, we have been in temperatures of -5 so don't want to be constantly losing our water when temperatures drop. Thanks

It’s not adjustable but could be faulty. Could it be the case that something has hit against the trigger on top of the valve and tripped it?

Well it’s not happened before or since so maybe we didn’t close it properly. Will just monitor it. Our main concern is what to do over winter as we will probably be away when temps drop below dump level. Is there something you can use to winterise it better or do we just keep the heating on?

The temp needs to be below 5-8 degrees inside, before it pops. They tend to be near heating, and hot water pipes too. Will you be inside a van at those temps? I think it’ll either be warmer as inside or you’ll be heating

It’s a balance between protecting your pipes and boiler from freezing and maintaining your fresh water supply.

My dump valve is the older model and I can put a clothes peg on the valve to stop it dumping. Maybe you could fix something onto it to do similar. I don’t know why they are set to dump at about 4 degrees……….Ive never seen water freeze above zero!! :giggle:

Getting a clearer picture now thanks. Exactly where is the temperature sensor for the valve near it or somewhere else. Thanks

As the inside temp is going to be higher than 5' then the valve shouldn't operate. I wouldn't put a peg on it to keep it closed, as it's a safety device to protect your expensive water heater.

Thank you everyone for all your advice. Really appreciate it and know now what we need to check.

This protection is just for the water heater boiler, not water storage. When reset open all the taps which will not start to run until the boiler is full. The taps will splutter until they run properly, this is just air being expelled.

I agree that it wouldnt be a good idea to keep a peg on it all the time, but I have often pegged it when the temp is 3% to save wasting my water. How else would you stop it operating when you don’t want it to,and when it’s not necessary???

East to fit a tap into the pipework. dodgy if you forget to open it though and leave the van unattended.
