Yep, chuck in a bucket of boiling water, it works. Never had problems afterwards.

What's the chances of printing a filler cap that will take a standard garden hose fitting?
Filler cap nearly finished. Has provision for garden hose Hozelock connection in the centre. Also provision to use 12volt whale subby pump in the second hole. The subby pump hole is 12mm for using with 10mm subby pump and pipe.

The rubber seal can make the cap hard to get off. Some silicon spray on the seal helps a lot. It did with mine but with arthritis an additional tool may help.
Just done the silicon spray thing to our water cap.
Results are good.
Thanks a lot.šŸ‘šŸ»
And the new filler cap looks a good idea that could be very tempting šŸ˜³šŸ¤Ŗ

Just waiting for the hozelock male connectors to come in the post and for the better half to make some sealing washers and it will be ready for the classified. All test on our van and it works great. Only fits the 3 pronged filler neck, which is probably the most popular cap fitted to vans anyway. šŸ˜‰

Final iteration tested by the better half and passed the arthritic hand test. All print quality glitches ironed out to an acceptable standard. Once I have a few printed for consistency testing and stock, I will put it in the classified. If anyone wants any other cap designs included, please send me your cap as a template or good dimensions and photos. Looking at the other cap designs Iā€™ve seen, this one is the only one that really is in desperate need of this tool.
You want to patent that invention then ask Fiamma, Leisure Spares etc if they want to sell them on their website. They must sell hundreds of those water caps every year as well as being fitted to many leisure vehicles. I used to have a Burstner with that same water cap and it was a nightmare to open or lock, nothing to grip.

Itā€™s definitely a good idea. Will look into whatā€™s involved patenting.
I don't think you can patent it now as you've put it in to the public domain prior to submitting a prelim patent.

Done a little investigation. Patents normally take about 5 years. I think Iā€™m too old for all that.

I had the problem of opening my water tank a few years ago and being of a builder background I thought I would improvise with a bit of an old plumbing waste pipe and it really works for me at very little cost
