Just started!
We have water leaking from the two tap/valves used for draining the fresh & grey water. Since fiddling with them it's now leaking more :)

I discovered there's a split in the black pipe feeding the valves and suspect the valves are fine. The pipe is about 30mm diameter but I suspect this is likely to be the wrong stuff!

Can anyone suggest a more suitable pipe or identify the pipe being used?

Thanks

John

Take the valves off and cut a bit off the pipe and reconnect them, looks like you have room. Its probably caused by the fact the valves are just loose, the correct ones have a lug that you can use to fix them in position.

They do look like DIY fixes. They are domestic/ commercial shut off valves that seem to have been adapted with some fittings to accept the hoses. Whether that is the original hose is hard to tell from the photo. The cable ties are not good either 🤨

The hoses have been bouncing on the cable tie whilst driving which has split them. Those metal taps are heavy unlike the normal plastic taps so need to be fixed on rigid brackets.
Caravan dealers, aquatic centres and some DIY sheds have the hose. Cut off a specimen piece or remove at tap to take with you if not sure.
If it were mine I'd get the 'proper' (and much lighter) plastic taps from a caravan/motorhome shop which won't need brackets.

Thanks everyone. I guessed there may have been some DIY going on and I like to get thing right - makes me feel better :)

You're right, those valves are heavy and tie wraps never seemed to be the best solution!

Thanks again

John

You reminded me that my tap was broken so I've just ordered a plastic one c/w with clips.
On eBay the price of exactly the same product varied between £15 and £27.
I ordered one from here at £8.95 + £3 p&p.

Thanks for that. Will these drain taps accept the 'black corrugated tubing' as pictured in my first post above?

Well I can't really tell from here but it looks like it. The taps are for 28mm (i.d.) pipe.
Make the job even simpler by treating yourself to new hose clips as well (Wickes, B&Q etc.) as old ones may look o.k. but are often corroded/jammed and a faff to reuse. You know you're worth it and a chap can't have too many hose clips ;) .
Tip.
The old pipe may have hardened so if you don't intend replacing it soften it up when fitting the taps by putting the ends in hot water or warm with a hair dryer or hot air gun on a low setting.

Purchased a pack of 10 stainless Jubilee clips today from Screwfix :)

I have so many projects going on with our van just now!

I save my old hose clips and clamps (and I also have a tin of about 30 worn out spark plugs).
Gawd knows why I save any of them as the reason I had to replace them was because they were no bloomin' good.
