Getting There!
Hi folks.....

We collect our new (to us) Mo - Ho later on this month, and as we will be doing longer hauls, we'd like the option to watch films from time to time.

The van does have a T.V. installed, but it seems to be a fairly basic (and cheap) generic type, so we will probably replace it.

My plan is, to load the videos on to a hard drive and then connect the drive to the T.V.

Is this possible? and if so, what brand or type do I need to research? and does that model/brand have USB connectivity?

We don't watch T.V. or satellite and don't have much interest in doing so, so don't require the all singing and dancing stuff that have the ability to receive freview - Astra etc etc......If, however it has to be such a model to achieve our aim then that is fine!

Cheers, Neil.

We have a TV but hardly ever use it but if we do it for pre-recorded programmes. Have a squint at the Cello Traveller II range we are very pleased with ours.

If you're only using it to watch pre recorded material why change it.
The screen should be OK, it's the receiver and decoder components which will let it down but you won't be using those.
I'd wait and see what it's like first.

On and off for many years.
We have a cheap DVD player with a rechargeable battery. We take DVDs with us and buy more from charity shops or The Entertainment Exchange when we are away - and leave the ones we have watched and no longer wish to keep.

We don't have a tv in the van and rarely watch tv at home either.

We used to take a laptop with us to watch our DVDs but last year bought a cheap (cello?) TV from Aldi that has a DVD player installed and watch them on that. We don't bother even trying to watch TV, the DVDs are enough. It's a smallish TV that packs away in the wardrobe when not in use.

More than toes wet now!
USB bus powered 2.5" hard disc drives work for us. Make sure you get this type as they are powered by the TV USB output rather than an external 230v power supply.
We've got both 1Tb (Seagate) and 2Tb (Western Digital) drives.
You can get smaller capacity hard drives, eg 500Gb or even USB sticks up to 128Gb at a sensible cost. I would recommend the brands previously mentioned (or perhaps Toshiba) for the hard drives (probably £60-80 for 1Tb \ 2Tb) or SanDisk for the USB sticks (£20-25 for a 128Gb)
The number of movies you'll get onto the hard drive, obviously, varies by the size of the files but as a rough outline you'll get upwards of 230 per terabyte.

Dead easy. The keyword is RIP the DVD which you may need to buy software to break the protection. Then just plug USB drive into your TV.
Step 1 Rip dvd using makemkv which wil turn it into a. Mkv fike
Step 2 Use Handbrake to turn the Mkv file into an mp4 file.
Select the big title file (which will be the actual film. The others will be the subtitles / other languages / added extras etc).

Found a new game called Mapominos - worth looking at it. We don't play the rules included but shuffle the pack and deal 12 cards each (2 players, 11 for 3 players and 10 for 4 players) including the transit cards. If you can't go you have to pick up and miss your turn. Transit cards only valid once - one card in, one card out. First to paly all their cards wins. Lots of different sets of mapominos.

We also like the Trantrix game (hexagonal tiles).

Our motorhome had a TV when we bought it, I believe with a DVD slot. We have never tried to switch it on, so don’t even know whether it works.

Don’t remember how to switch TV on at home either.

Evening entertainment when travelling is watching sat dishes going round and round, up and down. Even more fun is the guy with the aerial on a stand shouting at his missus through the window. :D
