Morning, 2.8jtd waste gate sheard off, ferry at 11am. Go or not

100% yes..if manual override ?

Yes I'd go. Are you saying it's knackered

What's a waste gate ?

Do you mean the actuator controlling the waste gate or do you have an open hole in your manifold now?

Actuator arm sheard off flapper.
Flapper moves free

Remove the vacuum pipe from the waste gate actuator and try and wedge the ‘flapper’ closed. You will over boost if using lots of revs, but just drive steady and you’ll be okay for a while.

Is it just a bolt missing from the actuator arm or something more permanent? Send us a picture for better advice.

Controls exhaust gas pressure to the turbo.

Cancel and get it fixed you could blow the turbo and possibly the engine with the turbo over pressurising.
Ok if it's engine definitely cancel, could cost a fortune in Europe, waste pipe on the habitation would have been a different kettle of fish.

AA man just been, flapper open so no boost, safe to drive he thinks. 2006yr
Rivet broken needs bolt

When my actuator broke on my VX220 it just drove like a NA. No turbo pressure at all. Less power obviously (a lot less!) but got me home from Switzerland no problem.

What I thought - see my last post. Also, being a light pressure turbo it won't make a massive difference to power. I'd carry on.

I'm in the queue to go, will be more leisurely drive than it already was.
Drives ok , just a little bit of smoke if over accelerate.

Did the AA man not have a bolt to fasten the actuator back to the wastegate flap?

It sounds very easy to fix… as said previously, post up a picture so we can assist.

Didn't have an angle drill.
I tried some wire to hold the two parts together, but not tight enough.

The black smoke is due to over fuelling as the management is expecting denser air to burn, so it’s delivering more fuel than is needed

Think you need to get it sorted asap and while you’re in the country. If not, it’ll lead to problems further down the line for you. You won’t be able to stop the excessive smoke on any hills either and that’s potential to getting pulled by the law.

Lastly, it’ll choke up the turbo with soot, so even when it’s bolted, it may have a problem working. I have the 2.8 JTD and had a coked up turbo problem I had to sort.

Better strap a fuel tanker to the back 😂
Only away until Friday

Don't need a new turbo. Get the flap off and drill the rivet out and replace with a fixing, bolt/rivet/something and jobs a good un.
