We recently changed from an Autotrail to a Swift Bessacarr 560L and it has a round sink like our old motorhome. The washing up bowl in the Swift is rather shallow and the sink cover wouldn't fit if the bowl was in place. I tried to track down a washing up bowl to fit but they were all too tall. I ended up buying a cake carrying box from Dunelm and use the base as a bowl. Its a perfect fit. It was expensive at £15 but when we have spent a huge amount on the van it seems money well spent. I was all for cutting the rim off the old bowl but husband insisted it would lose its rigidity, which is important as we largely do our washing up in campsite facilities and carry stuff in it.

Why do you need a bowl inside the sink. What’s wrong with using the sink itself to wash your dishes after all that’s what it’s for and you’ve paid for it in the price of the motorhome

It uses less water and allows us to rinse items without further diluting the water in the bowl. As we try and wash up using the campsite facilities which usually have massive sinks, it saves water for them too and allows the bowl to be stored in the sink with the cover on.

Not long enough!
Keeps the water hotter, longer, in a bowl.
Also stops scratching it and uses less water. I use a collapsable bowl in my sink.

We find a bowl is ideal for loading the dirty dishes and taking them to the washing up area for convenience and saving water or alternatively you don’t have to empty the dishwater down the plug hole into the grey tank if it’s greasy, you can discard it at the nearest grey waste point.

Why do folk buy a motorhome with a kitchen and then take their dishes to the site sinks to wash them?

plenty of hot water and lots of washing up space without making a mess in van.. and you can chat with fellow campers..

have you tried washing up a BBQ plate or griddle in a motorhome sink?

question should really be.. why pay for facilities and not use them

Each to their own I suppose. We don't stay on sites unless we absolutely have to - that's why we bought a motorhome and sold our caravan.

I do wash our BBQ in the MH sink - we have a small BBQ just big enough for the two of us.

However, we do socialise with people - not doing the washing up... over a glass of wine! :D

well, good for you then.. off-site parking is not my cup of tea.. nor wine for that matter

but each to their own.. including using site washing up facilities and showers. We find CMC site facilities top class.

When we bought our Bessie it took Jenny a good couple of months to find a suitable washing-up bowl, hence when we P/ex'd it later for the Pilote, she impressed on Hayes the difficulty we'd had sourcing it and it was with pleased hilarity we noted that the photos of it for sale on their website, showed the bowl still in situ in the sink.

Sadly the Pilote has a D shaped sink and nothing we've ever seen would fit. Our eldest daughter has a small collapsible bowl which she decided to use in there - but you can't even get a dinner plate in there - and our dinner plates are far from huge.

I use a bowl all the time either to carry the dishes to the campsite sink or simply to wash the dishes if off-site. The less greasy food waste down the sink the better, less chance of odours from the grey tank which only has shower water to contend with. But, as previously stated, it's down to individual choice (y)

You get to meet the other blokes on site (it's invariably 'Blokes). I went to the sinks one night at Benicassim and, one by one, I was joined by first one, then another, chaps from all over Europe, all the time remarking on the one sided gender attending the washing up. It got to six of us before a lady joined us. She couldn't understand it when we collectively gave out a cheer.

Do you not have a van with top class facilities then?

as already said.. have you tried washing up a BBQ plate or griddle in a motorhome sink .. ?

if so you will appreciate that it's easier at the campsite washing facility ..

motorhome sinks and draining boards are invariable too small for washing up a load of BBQ paraphernalia, plus all the other plates and cutlery.. a campsite washing sinks have tons of hot water, a big deep sink with draining board... and generally someone there to chat with.. it's not a chore.. in fact it's quite enjoyable..

why pay for facilities and not use them.... same as those who won't use a campsite shower.. each to their own..
