Hi Top
Exp
since 2006
At this time when everyone is concentrating on Covid some other conditions are probably being missed, 15 years ago I had oesophageal cancer, and fortunately survived but many patients with oesophageal, or stomach cancer don't because of late diagnosis, or fear of going to the Doctor. If any of you or family or friends are taking Antacids like Gaviscon on a regular basis for heartburn, losing weight, excessive hiccups, bringing up white fluid, slowing down in your eating habits , difficulty swallowing, constant belching , going off food ,nasty taste in your mouth, these are just some of the signs which members of a support group which I run have complained of. If you are worried don't wait, or do the man thing about ignoring, and it will go away, contact your GP, it may progress to an endoscopy which if it proves healthy will reassure you, and if not may get you treatment quicker. These cancers have a poor prognosis because of late presentation. I spend a lot of time on the telephone supporting people who have been diagnosed, and been given my details by the medical team, and am on the upper GI NSSG committee at our local hospital. If any of you feel that it would be good to talk if you open a conversation I will get in touch as soon as.

I recognise several of those symptoms, daily, but my GP not really interested. I was in papworth hospital with lung issues and a doctor there diagnosed oesophageal reflux. I go through gallons of gaviscon and have for years along with other meds for the acids. Was told years ago I had an ulcer, the GP just dismisses it as "just part of life as you get older"

Maybe I should push for better investigations

Yes definitely fella we may be in the midst of a pandemic but its not the only disease out there. Whats the point of dodging the corvid ball only to get hit with another ! Keep at them (y)

I have just spent 3 weeks in hospital after a 10hr Op and had 40 staples in my belly, on discharge my Dr said I had to see my G.P. for removal, I did mention that there appears to be 2 sort of Dr's..... the hospital ones working their socks off and the G.P.'s who are keeping their heads down........ he looked at me and nodded. My 92yr old mum lives up in Burnley ( Aerialmark) she has not yet had the flu jab and the G.P. isn't concerned, she hasn't been out the house since July when I went up and took her for a run...... my brother who is looking after her despairs.

Not surprised at the GP reaction, most of them will not have seen many cases, the consultants I deal with would rather have some negatives if it discovered some positives early which is the key to a cure, it is not just an "old man's disease" the youngest person who came to our group was in his early 40's. Should definitely keep pushing, far better to be a live nuisance.

Have a look on the web for swift view.
It's an alternative way of getting the vaccine. My parents had it last night although they'd had no contact from their own GP.

Keep at them John, it took a visit to a Chiropractic to discover 35 years of miss-diagnosis followed by a private £7,000 operation. Also thanks critch for the heads-up.
