I cannot read this thread as it's too upsetting. I will be facing this decision for my old collie all too soon.

Thinking of you both and hope the sad moment will soon pass and be replaced with all the good memories.

My little mate (him on the left) went to doggy heaven 2 years ago. Thankfully it was quick. He just keeled over and went in 5 mins. We held his paws for the last few minutes.

We had to have our 14 year old Springer Spaniel put to sleep last March, so coming up for a year now. Still as heartbroken as the day it happened. I think knowing she would be the last one is making it doubly hard. We have had Springers since 1975 and she was by far the best.

why do they make you wait when they know your heart is breaking ?

So very sorry for you at this very raw time. They come to mean so very much-they give nothing but affection and demand so little but when the time comes you've got to do the for you painful thing to be kind to them.
