Hi all.
Right we work as wardens on a site and go to Spain in winter.
So to the question. The boiler packed in while we where on a site. On EHU so kettle for hot water. Shower block for showers. Anyway a really good guy came had a look and play and got it workingšŸ˜Š But here's the thing his suppliers say the part that is on its way out is obsolete so is the boileršŸ¤£ so question is would you replace the boiler now while it working. Or wait for it to finally give up totally. As I've said we can get by with out it while on site. Also plan leaving it in UK when we go to Spain this winter. Wouldn't go to Spain the way it is.
So your thoughts

It could go on for years, if your trip to Spain is mainly on sites I would leave it until it packs up.
If you wild and use Aires all the time I would be tempted to change it.

Might help if you said what the heater is and the problem part, there may be non OEM parts available.

What make of boiler do you have, surely you will be able to source a 2nd hand part and take it with you?

Truma boiler.
We had the van a few years and not spent any real money on it. Wouldnt mind spending the cash. But don't want to waste it.
Bit of a gamble.
After summer this year van goes in storage for winter. May just get a quote and start saving.

In work at moment will look in a bit
But thanks guys

Is the gas side thatā€™s a problem or is it 240volt part.

sods law says it will pack in when you need it most. If parts are becoming obsolete its likely to be an older model. Just a question of either plan ahead and get a new one fitted before the old one dies or wait till it packs in and then worry about it. If it was me I would change it for new otherwise before you know it youā€™ve ended up holding onto a several items that are all on their last legs and then they all pack in at once. Stitch-in-timeā€¦.

Tend to agree. Are the newer boilers better, more economic or more heat control

If itā€™s the c3201 boiler with a band element like mine I fixed mine for Ā£6

240v. We really don't use gas as only ever on sites
Wouldn't worry about just use gas. All three vans we have had the boilers have been gas only. They work much better on gas and gas is a lot cheaper than paying for EHU.

EHU is free. Bought a fan heater to save on gas. As I've said while working could live with out it. The van is a 2006 reg so guessing boiler is same age

In which case, this may be an option to consider.

It depends on how much a replacement for the Truma would cost. This one is ideal in my view as it is 240V only and requires no gas hookup, or external venting.

May be something like that and a back up diesel heater. In case we do ever wild camp

Do they now have a diesel version that does blown air and hot water or if going the China route are 2 seperate units required.

Wish I was better at electric and mechanical stuff my self. But am not so need to rely on the professionals šŸ¤£

They do a combined unit. But do you really want the heating on to get hot water?
Not ideal for summer use sadly.

I suppose we could close the heating vents and just leave the bathroom one open do you have make or model number for the combined unit please cant seem to find one on fleabay

This is the type of boiler with electric option I have and the YouTube I watched to help fix it.

In the video the chap had a thermal fuse gone but mine it was the thermal switch which was faulty, I replaced it for Ā£6 and most of that was postage and itā€™s worked fine since.

Not seen them on ebay yet. Which is strange. Can be had of one of the chinese markets though.

This is the guy to watch to learn everything about Diesel heaters. He has become the go to expert over the last 2-3 years.

2006 it will be a C4002 or C6002.
EHU you will be paying for it someway.

The electric elements failed on mine years ago. I just use it as a gas boiler. Works quicker, and hotter on gas anyway.
