Hi guys
Looking for some advice. Just arrived in Bruges camping. I have a Waeco fridge that won’t run on 240v. It’s working fine on 12v battery when on the road. But as soon as you connect the 240v supply the fridge cuts out and the internal red light flashes every 5 seconds. As soon as the hook up lead is disconnected it kicks in again and runs on the leisure battery.
It’s a brand new 110amp battery fitted.
Is there some kind of 240v fuse maybe? I’m on site with limited tools but have checked all that I can. As far as I can tell the battery is charging on 240v from the 12v battery tester.
Any tips that or suggestions would be very much appreciated!
Kind regards
Cris

do you have the 240v volt power pack attached its an extra on most compressor fridges looking at fault finding once every five seconds is low voltage but i cant see how it runs on battery and not with charger

I have the same compressor fridge fitted with a Waeco MPS50 240/12v power supply module. The module is self seeking and will change to the 240v supply when available.
There is 240v 12amp slow blow glass fuse fitted and if this has blown could produce the symptoms you desccibe

Yes. There is a 240 volt power pack. I’ve just had that out and the glass fuse is fine. I was hoping it had blown!

It’s very strange. As soon as the hook up lead is plugged in it cuts the fridge out

There may be a fault on the MPS50 power unit, can you disconnect it from the fridge and test it produces 12volts and also at the same time check the fridge will run on 12v from the leisure battery.
I had a one that was faulty and had to be replaced. I ran the fridge on a 12v battery supply for several weeks whilst on a long trip in France. Provided you are on hook up with a decent battery charger there should be no problem. You do need decent sized supply cables, at least 6mm2 to prevent compressor start up voltage drop.
2.5mm2 3core cable will give 7.5mm2 if you join the 3 cables and use it as a "get you home"fix

Ours ran off a 5m lonng 2.5mm 2 core. Don't know what the start up volt drop was.
Just saying ?

there Is a cigarette socket on the power pack to plug in additional things. I plugged in a charger for a torch into this and tried it.... nothing. So I’m thinking this is the problem although I have no meter to check the power supply up to this point. Thankfully we are travelling around so the battery will get a good charge during the day. Just very frustrating!
