VW T4 pop-top campervan 2002 with solar power

la Strada Hi Top
Since 1972
Price: £11,500 or near offer

Reluctant sale of this much-loved camper. Having looked at many factory-built models and finding nothing that completely suited our needs, we decided to build our own. We bought the van 10 years ago with 30 k on the clock and it had been used until then as a disability vehicle. Most of the build is made from recycled wood, so although not as sleek and uniform as a factory-built one, it is eco-friendly and built for comfort and practicality.

It has been our car and camper for 10 years, travelling all round Europe without letting us down.
It has been serviced regularly by myself and a local garage - full written details supplied. Includes a full strip down and reconditioning of gearbox and clutch by a VW agent in Greece (which weren't even necessary, it turned out!)

New cam belt kit fitted less than 2000 miles ago (September 2017).

As we usually camp in low season when sites are mostly closed, the van has been designed for self-sufficiency. The solar panels keep the lights and fridge running, and the LPG system runs the cooker for about 6 weeks before needing a refill (widely available at garages throughout Europe at around 70p per litre). It is cosy in winter due to economical heater and good insulation, and well ventilated in summer.

The bed is quick to erect or fold away, and more is comfortable and spacious underneath than the usual rock'n'roll type.

At present it is set up for 2 people only (hence 2 seatbelts) and lots of storage space, but could easily be adapted for use by a family of 4.

The camper is in good overall mechanical condition, though it does have a few small dents, scrapes and paint chips. There have been a few rust spots which have been treated. The pop-up roof canvas has some stains and a few tiny holes but functions as it should.

Payment by bank transfer only.
