Only learning about this as, by chance, our car is suitable for this but think that the car/van that can be easily converted temporarily to a small camper & back to car quickly (especially when all seats can still be used) is likely to be a growth area with the surge of interest in camping, motorhoming & Staycations. Whilst searching for affordable plug in options https://www.motorhomefun.co.uk/forum/threads/car-to-camper-plug-in-conversions-campal-ququq-amdro-more.229968/ spotted that VW have a new version of their Caddy https://www.parkers.co.uk/vans-pickups/news/2020/volkswagen-caddy-california/ as a ready made version doing this. No UK price on the VW Caddy California yet & not known if it will be available here but it's interesting & other manufacturers will probably develop their own version if they haven't got one already. Can see that some that have large motorhomes might consider replacing their car with something like either of these type of options, it's a step in between tent camping & buying a full facilities motorhome or handy for use in conjunction with a small lightweight caravan.

Clever ideas are the removable storage bags that cover the rear windows for privacy,

magnetic curtains for other windows,

Froli type springs on aluminium frame so only a thin mattress is needed,

& grilles with fly screens for the front windows for ventilation whilst maintaining security.
