Hi
My voltage readout on solar is showing 16+volts and my water heater and space heater are locking out (flashing lights) denoting over voltage.
Should I be looking at the panel, the controller or the batteries?
Any help would be appreciated as I do not want to replace one by one if I can go straight to the source of the problem.
80 watt solar panel.
Unknown controller sharing habitation then vehicle battery.
2 x 100 watt lead acid batteries.
Many thanks in advance.

It could be a controller fault.
Or if you have only just connect it you must connect the controller to the battery first so the control know it is a 12 volt system not 24

Hi hchris
Thanks for coming back. Panel, controller and batteries all 3 years old. No problem over winter but with todays sun voltage has been too high.
Tempted to think it might be the controller but will wait and see what other responses I get.

Assuming the batteries have not been disconnected with the solar panel still connected at some stage then your controller needs replacement.

It IS the solar controller. Don't leave it connected - over-voltage will cause battery damage and may affect lighting, etc.

First check battery volts with a decent DVM. If over 14.75 volts, disconnect the solar input to the batteries. Get the solar reg checked or replace with known good.

at 16+ volts the system will cook.
