Ros and Norman @Hagstrom left Totana a few weeks ago and we promised we'd go for a visit.

Sooo today we made true our promise and we're now chillin' after a nice meal, after a nice walk, from Las Negras, Cabo de Gata.
A few drinks have been partaken also.

We're here for at least a few days, who knows how long. We have wheels, and time, so we'll stay for how long we like.

A few piccies from today's walk.

Has Norman made a full recovery now?

Yes, but they said that they're only just feeling normal in the last few days. It's taken a long time, much to their surprise. They are normally fit and healthy but this bug was discriminatory!

They walked OK today and taking us out on another saunter tomorrow!!

Looks like the campsite in the valley as you enter Las Negras. We wild camped by the playground on route to campsite.
Really like this area.

Correct.

We came to the camping cos Ros and Norman are here for a while. We saw the wild camping spot on the way here and much as we like wild camping I must say that that particular area didn't appeal to us!

Not many vans there atm, just a few older (long stay?) ones. A big greeny brown one and a German camper (with tent!) and an Italian.

The road in IS flooded so possibly keeping others out for now.

Lovely place though.

Looks great. Can’t see a fishing rod in any photos! We are at the new Camperstop at SAN Javier, Camper Park La Ribera. Massive 200 van capacity and nearly full! Including a big caravan and awning that arrived yesterday. Strange rules! Nice area but won’t stay here again. Moving on Thursday to wherever has a decent weather forecast.
Cheers
Bernie

Unfortunately, no bites!!!

Beautiful morning though once the sun came up. I wandered across an hour later with a flask of coffee and my phone. I did my bit and collected discarded fishing line and one lone empty can of energy drink!!! Otherwise this area is pristine.

We left at 11.00 to walk the "Green Valley". We walked past the village of Hortechuelas before descending into the valley. We sat and had our sarnies and searched for wild asparagus. A little further down we stopped to speak to a Dutch lady from the campsite walking thet route the opposite direction who said something about a horse's head!!!

Thoughts of The Godfather in OUR heads, we continued. We spotted the head and could breathe easily again.

A mine on the return route. Not sure what they mined but I have a lump of rock for my "garden"!

AND the horse's head.

Make sure the apprentice is remembering all we taught him plus there are no fish in the med bigger than my hand!

P.s. There are no fish at all in Mar Menor!

The area was/is rich in semi precious stones, minerals and gold.

There are the remains of the large Franco era Gold mine at Rodalquilar, just up the valley from El Playazo, well worth a walk, get to the top level for good views of the old terraced face and tunnels plus views of the area.

There is a usable dirt road over to Los Albaricoques and the Alba for excellent free tapas and menu del dia, Clint Eastwood apparently stayed there whilst filming some shots for the spaghetti westerns.

In the valley bottom is an old chapel supposedy the setting for Lorca's 'Bodas de Sangre', you could actually get into the crypt a few years ago but I think it may have been renovated.
Some good walks from Los Escullos area, Precillas Bajas up into the Caldera or over the hill to the Alba (for lunch:))

Coastal track to San Jose( for lunch:)) and back up the valley to El Pozo de Los Frailes and a track brings you back next to Los Escullos camp site.

Not been able to do any proper walking for a few years now so we haven't been to Los Escullos for a while, spent quite a few long winter stays in the past.

Right hip replaced yesterday so normal(ish) service may be resumed in a few months:)

I hope you have a swift recovery from your hip operation and you can get back out walking.

Today's walk was a two vehicle route. We went to the end of the route with the two vehicles then all went back to Rodalquilar and parked our Moho near the Botanical Gardens.

We started uphill and passed a motorhome parked up in an ideal wildcamping spot (in my opinion). Ideal cos they're parked away from the hordes!

Shortly after here we stopped to look at an Andalusian white house but we were distracted by an eagle soaring above.

Very slow internet so posting in chapters!

Not this time but it takes us less than two hours from home to get here so we'll probably have a few more trips in the near future.

We've likened our walks to similar to the Anti Atlas in Morocco AND the Canaries!!! Why travel so far when similar is almost on our doorstep?

From the goat farm we walked up a beautiful valley to a high point from where the seismic testing station was in view along the crater of an extinct volcano.

Turning our backs on the golf ball and deciding a climb up there was a climb too far, we continued to stop for a break at three abandoned houses. Ros and Norman think they were built by Germans but what the circumstances were aren't known. The houses were built to quite a final stage then abandoned.
