Despite the weather, we have been at the Broadford "Camping Skye" site for the last two nights. Very well. set out site with 20 of the 26 hard standing pitches allocted to motorhomes. Has good facilities with a motorhome service point. Today we were in Portree where the parking is excellenct for motorhomes having clearly laid out bays for motorhomes, no overnighting though and only £2 for two hours. Some roads are bit rough in places but the A roads are quite good although signage is not as well up to the mark as it could be. Wonder what others experience of the island has been this year. Diesel we note in the village was £1.80.9 per litre yesterday.

Pleased you enjoyed our stay in Skye, especially this time of year, you were brave going there as the last two summers before Covid were a nightmare, it was all over the news about the abundance of Campervans blocking up the towns, especially the approach roads into Portree. There was a bun fight for the limited number of MH spaces in the town car park, and the council even debated on whether to introduce "A Tourist Tax" for all visiting, but that idea was obviously squashed.
Hire Vans did not do us any favours either as the were using car parks as black waste disposal points, a few funsters mentioned the smell emanating from bushes arround the car parks, especially arround Fairy Falls.

Luckily we went to Skye before it became a world wide tourist must see place, and have fond memories of how quiet the place was in those days (Before bridge was built) We tend nowadays to just nip over the bridge to get some LPG & Visit the large Co-Op to stock up on essentials.
Really great to hear some positive news though, and you managed to live with the midges not spoiling things too much(y)

Ummm portree does have overnight spaces in the car park, just not the bit of the car park you parked in (it's by the recycle bins on the left near the coach area) mind you, hopefully you did note the CDP in the cage?

As for being busy, well was there just a month ago in july and it wasnt that busy at all on Skye.

We’ve spent a lot of July/August up in NW Highlands snd visitor numbers seem lower than last couple of years - in fact lower than earlier this year (May/June)

Midges? not seen any on our visit as too wet and windy unless they have developed adaptations to cope with the local climate! Lots of hire moho's but equally a large number of privately owned. We wonder if the hirers just show the people the ways of the van nd then off you go. Advice about black and grey waste should be a must as is getting fresh water. Saw a few "wild campers" around but mainly on the campsites or just moving around. So far we have been impressed with the reasonable parking charges and availability of spaces although a fair number have used up spare coach spaces. We managed to squeeze in at Dunvegan Castle but were there reasonably early so on our way out a few were occupying spaces next to the road.
A commne ti heard from a motorhomer while in France is that the size of these vans in his opinion needs to be limited to much less that the average A class monster. Roads on Skye and elsewhere even in Europe just do not cope with them in the countryside. Ours is 6 metres so we often can just fit in a car space lengthwise.
