I have a victron bmv 702 fitted in the motorhome
Also I have a 2000w inverter plus two leisure batteries positive cable is fitted to battery 1 should the negative be fitted to battery 2 or to the shunt

Connect ground of second battery to Shunt input
Connect All system grounds to the ground side of the Shunt (the other side). (Including the inverter ground)

If you don't, the inverter will draw power from your batteries and the Shunt won't record it, so your BMV SOC will be out.

All the negative terminals are ground to the negative side of the shunt .
I was just wondering about the negative cable of the inverter

As I said.
All negative terminals to the ground side of the Shunt. Including the inverter.
Otherwise the Shunt won't record the current drawn from the batteries by the inverter and your BMV will report an incorrect State of Charge.

In other words, the shunt has to ends: one end is battery side, and the other is for all loads and chargers. The only thing comes from the battery negative, is only one cable that goes to the shunt. Nothing else gets connected to the battery negative. Then you use the other side of shunt for all other negative connections. Does that help?
