We have had a full Victron system installed in the motorhome and very frustrated to find that the Babyliss hair straighteners that my partner uses cause the inverter to click constantly.

Everything else works fine.

They work on a Jackery that I use in my day van!

Can you please let me know what straighteners you use if you have a Victron inverter please.

Thanks
BigDean.

I suspect that the wattage of the straighteners is quite low and isn’t a significant enough load for the inverter.
Try loading the inverter with something else before and while using the straighteners.

That’s for the suggestion, but just tested. Still does it when running alongside a 500w heater.

Thanks

We have a 1600VA Victron inverter that won't run Claira's straighteners.

Just installed a system for someone almost the same, but with a 2000VA Victron inverter. Her straighteners work fine in that van.

Which inverter do you have?

(seems straighteners can have a very high start up draw)

Tell the mrs that this is the IN thing now….😎

You can buy 12v straighteners. I've heard they are quite good but probably take ages to use.

Multiplus 1200. They run fine on the Jackery which is 500w. The straighteners max draw is about 300w.

Just tried an “old” set which work fine. Then borrowed some other ones which don’t. Very confusing. It seems to be an incompatibility rather than insufficient power 🤷‍♂️

Thanks

We have a friend with a Mastervolt inverter and her Dyson hair dryers wouldn't work, it did on our Buttner though, I read a thread on a German forum that this was a problem but a surge protector plug would be the answer and cutting a long story short, SORTED so worth a try.

Thanks for that. On order from Amazon for delivery tomorrow 👍

Is your inverter in low power mode or something? You can change the settings...

It’s the earth PE relay activated? As in ticked? Try without. The 1200va has a surge of 2000 at least 5 seconds, it can’t be start up surge, it’s not a induction motor.

Our inverter which is Victron does the same, clicks and all the bulbs dim with the clicks. It’s as if the ac voltage clicks in and out. It’s plenty powerful enough and runs a 1000w hairdryer fine.

This is with GHD straighteners. Put it down to the GHD electronics and the inverter not liking them.

Interesting. Will report back once surge protector arrives today.

Thanks for that. Will try later👍

Cheap and nasty hair straighteners?

Oops (n) what was plan B?

To be perfectly honest, dont know at the moment. A bit annoyed that I have spend thousands having this system installed and one of the only things we need the inverter for doesnt work!

Tried without, no difference. Thanks.

Can’t help with your problem but OH uses cordless ones and says they are great, can also be charged with usb.

Thanks for that. Can you let me know what make and model?

Thanks

Did you purchase the victron system yourself, or had it purchased and installed by someone? Worth explaining to a victron suport technician.

Helen uses GHD cordless straighteners which recharge off usb which she says work great. Her mains powered ones work ok off our 2000w inverter also.

Thanks for that. Which mains powered ones are they? If I could have make and model, that would be great.

Thanks

Thanks Raul, I am Victron trained, but not extremely experienced in advanced fault finding. I will get a call in to the distributor, but dont hold a lot of hope. I have not had any success on the Victron Forum thus far.

It seems when Victron dont have an answer, they ignore it. They make great products and are great at support when it is something they know should work, but bury their head in the sand when they dont have an answer. It is the same problem with very hot Orions. They dont comment on any threads about it, just ignore the problem.

Thanks again.
