So there I was, hovering over the "Buy" button, and then . . . . .

Scenario1: I had been advised that IP22 ( 15a / 3output ) would be fine to parallel with EBL99 (18a), giving 33a total charge.

But then I wondered, if EBL is a basic split charge unit, and IP22 has sophisticated charging profiles, are they compatible ?

would they figure out how to properly charge the Batts, or would there be a conflict of interests which might prevent optimal charge to Batteries ?

Scenario2: Other option is to disable EBL EHU charger, and buy 30a IP22 ( significantly more expensive ).

I already own 18a charging of EBL unit, so would Scenario2 be waste of cash, or a wise precaution against Scenario1 ?

What sort of batteries are you using, and how many amps (Ah)?

The split charging has nothing to do with the mains charging side, it is just for charging when the engine is running.

The charger in the EBL is an LAS 1218, which is a 3-stage 18A intelligent charger (It has 'IUoU' on the front panel). It should work fine with a Victron IP22 for all usual scenarios. For extended storage, if you want to take advantage of the IP22's 'Storage' mode, you could simply remove the 'Internes Lademodul' (Internal Charge Module) fuse to disable the internal charger output. Then only the IP22 will be charging the leisure battery.

Im not sure what the 'storage' mode is . . . .

My quandary now, is whether to buy 15a or 30a IP22

If I get the 30a, it would be 48a together with EBL, isnt that too much for my 2x100ah sealed HabBats ?

Thanks Lenny
I should have realised that, Duh !

I had a little chart showing SOC / discharge that Lenny recommended.
Was looking for it today, I searched MHF as well as my HDD, but couldnt find it.
I know there's definitely a printout of it in the van, but the gremlins ran off with the electronic version . . . .

Any pointers anyone ?

Storage mode is something that comes in automatically if it's been in float mode for a long time (a week or so). It cuts out and waits for the charge to fall a bit before the next topping up. It means a battery on charge for several weeks/months isn't continually charged, but has breaks where it's not charging. That may or may not be relevant to you.

I'm not sure which of those chargers is best for you. In my experience, once you have a hookup connected, it's usually for a long time, overnight at least, which is long enough to charge most batteries, so I don't think a super-fast charge is usually required. You may have other situations where fast charging from 240V is important - from a generator for example.

I put a 15A victron IP22 charger into my van when i added a 200Ah lithium battery as i wanted my mains charger to have a dedicated lithium profile (as the EBL119 does not have that.)
i disabled the EBL split charge by removing the Starter battery input from it and wired a 50A Votronic B2B direct to the lithium habitation battery to cover charging when driving, and wired the IP22 direct to the liesure battery (utilising the same wiring as the B2B), and removed the Charger fuse from the EBL (to prevent the mains charging the leisure battery from the EBL when on hookup)
