Should do the job the advantage of the inverter is it can be used on any other 3ph machine you might want as long as it's 2hp or less you will need to change the links in the from star to delta

I saw that and there is also a photo showing UVW.
Just don't understand why no where does it say 3 phase output.
Maybe i am just too sceptical of Ebay
Never seen a inverter with a single phase output

I know you can get 3 phase to 3 phase, not sure about single to single?

I work on machines with inverters most days it is not unusual to find small inverters below 2.2kw 3hp which are single phase input 3 phase 220 volt output most small motor's can be linked for 220v or 400 operation

Hi @bubble63, let us know how it works out, something like that would probably run my small surface grinder. I was looking at VFD's in the adverts in Model Engineer and they are twice the price of the one you've listed (y)

hi chris
my motor has lots of terminals 1-6 I think, 2-3-4 are linked with copper strip
so... not sure if its in delta or star right now:cool:
the previous inverter ran the motor just fine until its untimely departure:( [so perhaps delta?]
I dont understand if i need to respect polarity when I connect the motor/inverter,
the inverter output is marked U-V-W ??!!o_O
anybody have any tips?

Could you post a picture of the motor plate and the inside of the terminal box
Polarity don't matter if the direction is wrong just change any 2 of the connections

The motor is connected in star 415v to change to delta remove the links fit the long link between 1 and 6 then small links between 2 and 3 ,4 and 5 leave the power connection where they are.
Check the resistance low ohms between the 3 power cables 3 times between 1 2 then 1 3 and 2 3 should be the same within 10% the link setup is a bit of a guess it's a unusual setup.
Was the old inverter 220v 415v output or the motor has been rewound or it was run on 220v would of run but lack power

I think I agree with you , its in star
looking at the diagram above I also concur with you wiring suggestion
I'm strangely motivated by this little forage, its been 35 years since I really touched this kind of stuff:)

great question, I literally fished the old/ brand new convertor out of a skip, connected it and it ran, never thought anymore about it

[Dont suppose you know anything about 60's rolls royce V8 chokes do you, as that the other thing thats perplexing me at the moment;)]

I'm going for complicated as I don't think I need parts, they just don't come off choke at the appropriate time
I'm buttering up an aeronautical engineer as it very similar physics

Ok an update

The VFD arrived and won't work
In delta it just turns the motor slowly and in star nothing
The instructions are next to useless
I have initiated a return thro eBay
The seller is twisting and turning and does not want a return, hopefully eBay will step in
I have found a second hand 1/2 horse motor

So back to plan A or was it B

Thanks for the motor offers but I think a 1/2 is required.

Not familiar with that Inverter when you tried it did you set the frequency 50Hz will give normal speed.

Yep 50 hz
tried every thing I could think of
The vendor is just shipping boxes, they don't have a clue
I found a motor from a myford lathe will fit
