Happy Friday!

Please could someone confirm I am interpreting this plate correctly?

  • The conversion is unladen at 4005kg and the MTPLM is 5045kg.
  • Front axle 2100Kg.
  • Rear axle 2400kg.
  • As it is a motorhome, it is still a Class 4 MOT?
  • I may however need to find a class 7 centre due to its size and weight?
I have read elsewhere that if you turn up with heavy permanent fixtures, like a scooter in the back, the test centre could stipulate a Class 7 MOT, but only in extreme cases.

Am I correct here, and I will just need to find a Class 7 ATS location, or similar? Thanks.

Nope.....
Top.... Gross weight
Next... Train weight
Next... Front axle
Next....rear axle

MOT is class 4
Class 7 will be for a goods (even your own) carrying vehicle so it could be tested as class 7.
A scooter etc isn't a necessary item (in the eyes of VOSA) for camping.

What he said..
Your max loaded weight is 4005kg.
The next line is train weight, vehicle and trailer max. Then axle weights.
Class 4.

Got mine MOT at Halfords £39:85. They said their computers only saw it as class 7 but it’s a class 4. It passed so I’m happy

The computer probably saw it for what it is based on.... A commercial vehicle.

Just a thought, how would the tester know a scooter was in the garage.... They have no reason to open locker doors, that isn't a testable item.

I think a post referred to taking it to the test centre with it on a carrier as opposed to the garage.

Gross vs Train, I should remember that from the caravan days, perhaps I mentally scrubbed that part of my hard drive, or it's a bad sector.

What your V5C shows as the revenue weight is what matters if you are stopped, the plate should match the revenue weight but sometimes they are out of step.

My understanding was for my 4005kg van if I used the garage to carry non camping goods, such as the scooter or cases of wine ETC then I was using it as a class 7 vehicle & therefore needed the class 7 MOT.

Good clear explanation.

When I increased the max gross mass of our motorhome, I had the motorhome sticker updated to the maximum gross mass of the Fiat Ducato, which was 3650. This is a paperwork exercise which updates my V5 registration document. Regarding those cases of wine, if they are for your consumption they are not goods. However, if you are carrying cases of wine, or anything else that is associated with your business, then you have a goods vehicle.

I'm going to make a visit to the local weigh bridge and see what room we have. I've no intention of loading scooters into the garage but cases of wine might happen :wine:
