VAN CONVERSION
Exp
Since 2016
There is often questions on this forum about increasing the MH gross vehicle wt via the DVLA/V5 amendment process but what about a scenario of reducing the GVW from say 4 ton to 3.5ton. Has anyone followed that process and had any issues?
I am considering uprating my 3.5 ton PVC but will likely reduce that again when I hit 70 in three years time. Just thought I would ask before I jump in on the change.
(also I would not consider changing the van for another at 3.5 ton)
Thanks
?

Cant see any problem with this at all. As long as the Van's MIRO is less than 3.5t it can be down rated.

The DVLA will want to be satisfied that there is still enough of an allowance so that it can be used legally

My A class van is rated at 3850kg

There is only one plate on the vehicle (that I can find) - for the original base vehicle 3500kg

Every other similar van I have seen fr sale has a Weight of 3500kg or less

According to the V5 you just have to apply to change the weight - on the V5

I sent the V5 and a photo of the plate to the DVLA at the beginning of September - heard nothing since.

Haha. Yes that's why it the mass in running order and not the unladen weight. If its plated at 3.5t now it will easily go back to 3.5t
