This dealer had two similar new Sunlight campervans on sale. One a 2019 model, the other a 2020. The advert said about the 2019 model: as this is the 2019 model save £2000.- on VED, beat the 2020 model VED increase. GRAB A BARGAIN!
The van must have sold in the last few days because the advert is no longer on the dealer's website. Because of this I can't give you the exact VED figures quoted but to sum it up, the dealer said you would pay about £2000.- less in VED if you bought the 2019 model.

Yup. MHs have been included alongside luxury cars. There was some momentum to have the law changed but that was before the virus arrived. I can't think it will be seen as a priority now.

Well I would expect to pay less for an older model - don't know why VED should make a difference, understood that VED was now or shortly reverting to old system. Sounds like a sales ploy to me.

that is correct with the VED changes

The VED is only payable on the purchase and date of then vans first reg to a new, first time owner so well done for the smoke and mirrors to the dealer. The day you but he van not the day it was built affects the VED . Good sacm!

Sorry no glasses (again) The Day you buy the van NOT the day it was built .............great scam for getting rid of old stock

I’ve got a Sunlight arriving in September. When I ordered in January the total cost included the higher VED rates. Following the budget in March, this was put back to the old rates, knocking about £1700 off the total price of the van.....happy days.(y)

OK, so your answer to my question makes the most sense. The dealer had no right to print that as it was not true that you would today pay more VED on the 2020 model. This is important as the first answer given by DBK, at the top of this thread, is not what you are saying! DBK seems to say that the dealer was correct in his "GRAB A BARGAIN" claim.

Are you sure? The only poster who agrees with you is "TheBig1"

It was correct in March but the government U turned as from april 1st.

Dealer would have been correct up to 31st March but now either he has not bothered to change the advert or he is taking the pee.

You must have really really wanted it to be prepared to pay that VED! Those Sunlight I was referring to were 540 Cliff XV Auto.

You didn't have any choice if you were buying between last September and the end of March it applied to all Motorhome.

Yes we really wanted it as we’d been looking a long time (Sunlight Cliff 600 with lots of extras), no we didn’t want to pay the extra VED, but like many we had no choice......at the time. (y)

How much were they asking for it? We looked at the XV, but got more for our money ordering the base model and adding our own extras.

That's incorrect, it depended on the engine type. If it had a euro 6d? it was at the higher rate. We purchased new unregistered in Dec 19 and the VED is the lower rate, £265 per year.

The one left is at £49,513. They have only one other Sunlight at £42,450 although one picture shows a price of £39,950 inside the windscreen. It is a Cliff 601 Auto Excise Duty. Looking at the pictures it is quite basic and with a 150hp engine probably a 2019 model.

We’re paying just over £41k for the 600 (2020 model) with up rated engine to the 140, with a manual gearbox, and plenty of extras. Happy to list them if anyone’s interested? :giggle:
