I see your pic shows an Autotrail.. have you checked the Viva weight and the train weight on the Autotrail ?
Depending on AT model, many have bolt on chassis extensions so you need be careful as if someone has fitted only to the extensions you could cause damage. (y)
My Apache 700 (2012) can only tow 1050kg..

If it's the new viva, Vauxhall website says its 1350kg..

Hit one broadside with a consul 375 wrecked the viva but had to pull the front bumper out by 1/2 inch as that was the only damage

Reckon the opposite today with safety cells etc on new cars.

My brother just scrapped his 97 Corsa for that reason....driving 20 year old technology in a world of modern cars.
Mind you, he bought a little 3 cylinder Skoda

Viva HC was my first car in 1987... PRB 710M first registered in December1973. 1256cc engine, under powered, heavy, leaky, unreliable rusty pile of scrap. The later Opel designed cars were much better, I think the last British one was the Chevette.

I think you will find the early 70's viva was a different generation to the Chevette, which was around the same time as the Cavalier. There were even earlier versions of the Viva, which are fairly rare nowadays.

ps, looking to buy an A Frame!!

I thought every one had towed a viva at some time in there life
For clarity and being a bit pedantic and for the curious uninitiated.

It should be remembered that A frame come in two parts so
An A frame of any age or manufacturer can be bought and used on any vehicle
ONCE you have confirmed an adapter (Towing Bar) is or can be available for your chosen vehicle and that it also matches the chosen A frame too,
having been asked many times to fit miss matched bits of kit its not as obvious as one might think,

What do you expect from a 14 year old 70's car ?

I had a Vauxhall Magnum, automatic and it went like the proverbial off of a shovel. I just looked on line to see if it is still going and the tax is / was due in 1987.

I'm considering a raspberry magnum, right now as it's 30 degrees here on the Bozburon peninsula

I had a 1972 Viva, the clutch pedal snapped off. Very inconvenient.

I tow a VW Up on an A frame and it behaves very well. Previously towed a Smart and it sometimes suffered from horrible wheel wobble (there are ways of stopping Smarts from doing this). Most cars seem to tow well on A frames, the wheel wobble seems to be limited to certain Smarts.

Had a couple of Bedford ha vans based on the viva , my father had a brand new one in 1965 first jobs where touching up the rust, but always seem to remember they went very well for those days, but they all ended up the same , rusted away around the guttering and the roof would lift up.

In the 60s and 70s Vauxhall had great engines and gearboxes but suffered for the quality of steel and paint think last of the good ones was the pa cresta.

My father had one in the 70's, it was white with red mock leather seats - very tasteful (NOT)

Anyway, I just looked up the spec on the Vauxhall website, GVW is listed as 1353 kg for the base model, that is too heavy to tow on your van.
