Decided to purchase the Memo Vanstar E Cross.

Only driven 400 miles with bikes on-board , no movement and bikes very secure.
Heading to France from Aberdeen later this month so should be a better test .
Rack protrudes about 300mm in the vertical position and 870mm with the bikes loaded.

Just returned from France, 3200 miles for the trip.
Vanstar bike rack was great.
The cover I purchased from Bags4everything gave no problems, very strong material.

That’s a great set up….I went for the poverty package (well intermediate really) on my Globecar of getting a towbar fitted and using a Strada DL3 tilt back rack. As I don’t (yet) use E bikes it made more sense for light Carbon road bikes but the access to the barn doors isn‘t as clean as your system.

Hi Ally, my Fiat Ducato Swift is booked in to have one of these fitted next month but I was looking at the design earlier and wondered if there is likely to be an issue with grounding, especially when boarding a ferry. Have you had experience of this with yours? Paul

Not had any grounding issues with our VanStar in 2 years/4 ferry trips

Hi. We have been looking at these online but can't seem to be able to find any dealers where we can look at them anywhere near us in Gloucester. Can I please ask whether this is easy to remove and store in a garage when not needed? Or is this not possible/so difficult it just stays on the van? We only take our e bikes to the continent and don't use them (for the moment anyway) in the UK as the dogs always come camping with us. Many Thanks.

It's very heavy. Easier taken off but heavy to put on. We leave ours on but folded up to reduce effective vehicle length.

Thank you for your quick reply. Much appreciated.

Contact LNB at Aztec West, Bristol. They had one on display I think last time I was there. Fitted ours (older version) a couple of years ago.
We have taken ours off and refitted it but it is a two person job, and made much easier if you grease the arms which go into the chassis mounted part of the system.

I remove the bikes and leave it in the vertical position, only increases overall van length by 300mm.
Can be removed but is heavy.

Thanks for your reply - much appreciated. LNB don't have one on display but told us today they will supply and fit.

I'm jumping in on this late! We have been in touch with LNB and will probably go down this route. I notice you have an Adria Twin, we are expecting a Adria Twin 640 SLB in the next few weeks. Can I have to ask have you had to up rate, or have you managed to keep below 3.5t? LNB have said the carrier weighs about 45kg, so pretty heavy. We both have C1 licences so uprating would not be a problem. Cheers.

Hi ,We have our Twin SLB arriving this week and am exploring options re carrying two heavy- ish e-bikes on the back of it but having done some research I’m struggling to find any other alternative to the Memo ECross . Have been told that a Westfalia system which is newish (Swing-out Arm Accessory for Receiver Hitch Style Towbar) might suit but am struggling to find the max weight on this system. Is this a system you have looked at ?

cheers.

It have not seen many alternatives that do the same as the Memo/Vanstar E Cross. I've not heard of/seen the Westfalia system. I think the Memo/Vanstar E Cross weighs in at about 45kg and can hold about 75kg? It might be worth joining (if you have not already) the Adria Twin Facebook group. There is a discussion there at the moment about Memo/Vanstar E Cross.

There is also a similar type of rack from a company called Busbiker.

Yes, you reminded me I saw one on a van in Croatia last summer. The thing that put me off is I think they have to cut a hole in the rear bumper but I could be wrong. I was. Chatting to a guy last week who recently had a Memo/Vanstar E Cross fitted recently and was very pleased with it.

We have the rack fitted now to our new Adria 640 SLB, very pleased with it. I've looked on Bags4everything and there seems to be lots of different covers. Could I ask which one you have, and possibly the weblink? Cheers.

Great stuff, I also needed to tilt my bike carrier but opted for a slightly different solution and it works brilliantly too. I had an expensive and good bike rack so I was looking for the tilt tool itself. I found the Lemet Swingy and definitely recommend it. The principle is similar to this rack from Memo, the difference is that it's the swivel module itself for the bike rack. You kind of have a towbar on the hitch and just mount the bikes on that.

Here's the link if you are interested: https://x-camping.eu/en/for-bike-carriers/pivoting-module-swingy-id-6200472
