On behalf of caravanning friends, has anyone experienced UV degradation of their Vango awnings.

I’m not sure which model of awning, but it’s only seen light use over this summer and has already started to split. Vango have inspected the awning and put it down to excessive UV exposure, which is not covered by their warranty.

Yes. Most definitely.

Had a Vango that I put over the summer. Fell to bits when I tried to pack it up.

Same thing, Vango said over-exposed to UV. (Are we supposed to only put them up at night!?)

I read the advertising tosh and it said (words to the effect of) - "for use by serious caravaners in all climates" - nothing like the exact wording but you get the drift.

I pointed this out to the dealer and got a new awning FOC. I swapped it with the dealer for some Sat / TV stuff because I refused to have another Vango.

Basically they are good for occasional use, maybe the odd couple of weeks somewhere but not for serious use.

Hope this helps. They should check the claims for their particular awning and go from there.

Didn't buy it from these guys but same awning. Not the same wording as I used to get a new one.

We had a air one when we were caravaning the grey bits changed colour to yellow over the summer Vango changed it with no issues straightaway.

I have a Vango Force 10 and have used it in all sorts of adverse weather conditions, I have had it for around 30 years, it is a bit old fashioned but I have used it in Summer and camped in snow etc totally trust that tent, but then again that was when Vango made a tent to last. I also own a Hilleburg it is lighter, just as durable and again totally trust it in all conditions (if you want to go camping with your four legged friend have a look here) .

Hilliburg tents are not cheap but do last have a look here

Before I purchased a Hilliburg I had another manufactures who are a well known extream outdoor kit manufacture. The tent literally fell apart......it was Glued but not stitched! the second was the same.

Its possible Vango have a batch that is substandard and if they don't sort it it will affect the brand.

Yes but it didnt stay up long enough for UV to be an issue.

We bought a Hexaway last November in the sales, didn't get the chance to put it up until we were in Denmark in May. First problem we had is that when used with the Kador strip it drops the fixing height by 50mm so the fabric catches the top of the door. Second issue we had was that it didn't stay up due to a slow puncture so it wasn't clear which tube was leaking.

Returned it to Winfields and the argument started with them and Vango. Long story short, Vango collected it to check it, returned it a week later and said there wasn't a problem. I blew it up and it still went down again. Winfield's again and arranged to have it returned to Vango.

Winfields have been great and issued a full refund a year after we purchased it, Vango I wouldn't touch with a barge pole.

Yup.. awning changed colour the first year of use, second year some of the fabric felt very brittle and ready to fall apart.. Sold it on before it fell apart on us !
