Hi. Looking for some help, I have fitted the battery master direct to my leisure battery and starter battery earthing on an existing location on the seat frame as per instructions. Today the leisure battery was reading 13.2v and the engine battery 12.5v. Light on the BM is green with the engine and ignition off. When I start the engine the light goes red and remains red. Any suggestions, I am away for a couple of weeks Sunday and don't want to return to a flat starter battery. I never fitted to the EBL119 as its a bit of a rats nest under the passenger seat where that is located and I have basic skills. Many thanks.

It's all working as it should do from what you describe, I see no problem.
When your engine is running the battery voltage will rise as your alternator charges it, which will take your starter battery voltage
over the threshold for the Battery Master to kick in and trickle charge your starter battery which is why the Battery Master light turns red.

Sounds like it is working OK to me, as above(y) too slow on the fingers.

Red means that the Leisure battery is trying to charge the starter battery due to voltage difference . Should the battery master not go to green (balanced) after going red (as expected)at first start up ? then the alternator should be charging both batteries to keep them equal (balanced). . Not staying red when running as DT says his is doing.
My battery master light is normally green when parked up (nothing on, except solar) it goes to red when I first start the van and the almost straight away goes to green when the engine is running and stays that way while running.
The Vanbitz battery master light showing Red = charging (leisure battery to starter battery) Green = balanced

Thanks all for you help. Just back from storage and removed the dam seat again, it looks like I had dislodged the earth cable when I previously replaced the seat so now it is firmly fitted to the battery bracket bolt. The leisure battery was 13.2v and the starter 12.5v when I left the site with the BM displaying a red light which I think according to Eddies sheet means the starter battery is getting voltage from the leisure battery. Now under orders to do some packing at home so we will see the state of both in a few weeks.

Yup working as planned

Enjoy your trip 👍

Sorry to resurrect an older thread but can zi ask Eddie a question

eddievanbitz

hi Eddie

i’ve very recently had an issue with my starter battery going flat, down to less than 6 volts with nothing on at all and it went down quickly tbh

This morning RAC came out and the BM was not hot but well above warm. Is this normal do you know, the light was red btw before he disconnected it.

cheers

Al 👍

I would suspect the engine battery is shot (or you left something on) The BM was warm as it’s working hard trying to rectify the situation, hence the red light.

The BM can only put power INTO the engine battery so would not have caused the flat engine battery.

This makes good sense Eddie so thanks for coming back to me 👍

I’m hoping the battery is buggered tbh with you as there certainly was nothing left on or certainly nothing we know of.

cheers Al 👍

Happened to use the locker my Battery Master is in.

On EHU

Sun shining on solar

Both batteries showing 13v on the internal meter.

Green light, but with a red flash every five seconds or so.

Guess it’s working?

Write out 100 times……..I must not open threads like this😊

hi,
my van did the same thing a couple of weeks ago, i am thinking it may be something that is a rapido fault, my vans going in to have a few bits rectified in a couple of weeks, i will ask if its a common fault.

hi Chris

we are here now and i’ve just been drip fed a bit of info that something is draining the battery

On a side, yesterday when we arrived at Brownhills and locked it up the alarm went off after about 15/20 secs, first time it’s done this and it’s the same this morning so whether it’s linked or not i’ll have to wait and see

It’s not been a fault free start tbh 😢

Update

So after having had fitted a Victron B2B charger and a Vanbitz Battery Master on my brand new Rapido Distinction i1090, it’s become apparent over this weekend and great investigation by the Brownhills tech guys that i’ve wasted my money as the motorhome has it all built in.

The Distinction has an intelligent charging system already built in called “Redarc”, i’m uncertain if other models have it but did look at 2 new 2023 models that didn’t have it installed.

The Victron Orion 12/12/30 B2zb has a 30a charge output whereas the Redarc has an output of 70a so much larger, it also has a built in battery equaliser so will push current between the engine and leisure where it’s needed.

My equipment was apparently confusing the Redarc system so it’s all been completely removed and so far the engine starter battery is holding its own at a constant 13.1v no ehu as i’m typing this.

Fingers crossed i’m good to go now on the battery front and Brownhills, if your reading this, the tech service guys are brilliant 👍

HI,
i am hoping to have a look at my setup when i finish work, is there an easy way of checking if i have the Redarc system,

hi Chris

yes their is, if you open up the locker which contains all the electrics, the one below the hookup point, it should be mounted on the left hand side wall, its an aluminium box with heatsinks on it and would you believe coloured red.

I'm not sure if its a brand new edition to our models but even the Brownhill lads told me that it was new to them as well, Rapido in France were great feeding information back to the lads even at the weekend, great service up to now imo.
