Glancing through some adverts for Motorhomes and l am still amazed to see that some dealers consider prospective buyers as glassy eyed morons when they add such seductive "extras" to entice us. For example "colour coded bumpers"... (n)do they really think a white bumper on a white van is a potential deal breaker.
Or..."front and nearside wing mirrors" and even, "rubber mats" as if they were a gift from heaven!!!

You should look at a Carthago - everything is extra! My multi-function steering wheel has 2 primary functions - it turns the van left and it turns it right! £90k and not a carpet in sight!

Thats exactly how Swift do it. Comes with everything SIR not like these rubbishy foreign imports that don't even have a microwave. They also come complete with an inbuilt sprinkler system and plastic wood that does not rot SIR ..

Although it's a car the new Vauxhall Corsa is advertised with all the extras as standard

IF they're standard then there's nothing as an extra ?????? is there
and you get all the rubbish you might not want (heated seats no ta)

Passenger air bags. As basic as it gets but still an extra for some manufacturers as they try to get their vehicles below a magic price point. Lunar were charging nearly £1500 "delivery" (don't know if they still do?) so what would happen if you offered to drive it to the dealers for them? I'm surprised that most manufacturers include wheels and an engine in the list price!

I remember Ford's charged extra for the heater on their cars (optional extra) although none were in the showroom without them.

Oh dear , Would sir like a radio in your van. That is after they took it out after we bought it from the NEC show. I just said I would like it put back. And they did.

i love the heated seats in our car fabulous if youve got an achy back

I once tried to explain that I don’t pay a “delivery charge” when I do the shopping, buy petrol etc so why should I pay extra for a car your trying to sell me! Didn’t buy it

Our seats in the Antara are heated and yes - Jenny wondered if she'd had an accident - but we both love em whenever we're cold and so is the car, to do the trick until the engine heats up a bit and the blower gets going properly.

We had them in our trucks. Oh yes. Now got them fixed in my car.

I tell you what annoys me nowadays - £59.00 admin charge when you buy a new car etc!, what's that about after you've spent x amount of thousands on something.

I hate changing any sort of vehicle - don't enjoy the process at all.

Dacia have the idea, just buy it on line - don't think Hermes bring them tho! Lol.

Interestingly, Dacia score really well on reliability and satisfaction surveys..

Saga sent me a renewal notice for my car insurance a couple of years ago and tacked on the end was a £20 "renewal fee". They actually wanted to charge extra to a loyal customer for the pleasure of giving them some business! They lost my business for ever across the board because of that one act of greed.

That was on mine last year but a phone call got it removed. I suspect it's one of those try it and a lot don't even notice.

i used to buy BMWs and never specified a radio so there was just a blank panel on the dash. At trade-in time the absence of a radio was highlighted as a big deal. In the end of the day "extras" are just a way of getting more money out of you and/or making the vehicle (initially) seem cheaper.

Thought I’d wet myself the first time ours were turned on.:)

When a heated driver's seat refused to switch off - scorchio - have you ever tried to drive far without actually sitting down - Aaaaagh.

Really going back in time here, many will remember the L/R Turner indicater being in the pillar between the doors but eventually you could buy a kit and fit flashers so you were right upto date, I used to do a bit of car dealing in those days and every car we fitted flashers to advertise it with flashers, additionally we would fit an out of the box demister that stuck to the windscreen with suckers and a coiled wire was basically shorted and burnt bright red you could light a cigarette from it.those were real extras not like today’s luxury items.

All vans the passenger seat and heater used to be options.

Shame they don't do any autos.

Like Hymer's you get the basic safety features as standard, Hill hold, EPS, PAB etc. I would rather have that then choose the extras I want in the van, a much more sensible idea as far as I'm concerened.

Bought 3 new vans, from Belgium dealer, never been charged a delivery charge, the Belgium's like the Germans know the vans they are selling in detail put UK dealers to shame also no need to haggle the just give you their best price a pleasanter experance.

If you want a load of features as ‘standard’ get a Benimar. You even get a branded pinny and an oven glove!

PS. I’ve got heated seats in my car front and rear. Wouldn’t buy another car without them. Brilliant! Warms you up whilst waiting for the heater to kick in.

We had never had heated seats until we bought a used Smart For Two that had them ... oooooooo ... luvly jubly! :D When we bought our new Smart For Two it HAD to have them ... can't beat sitting on a warm seat when you get in the car, rather than getting a frozen bum! :D2

Changed ours last year & the 'new-to-us' replacement has heated seats. They're brilliant:). As is the new gearbox.

Buying a BMW motorbike like the R1200RT, it comes, (as you'd expect) ready painted. BUT which ever paint colour you spec is an extra.
