Our winter sun in Spain will have to wait till March .

Have a good trip but I suspect 6 months isn't long enough - it's a big country. :)

I'm fully subscribed to this thread and furthermore I'm really impressed by your courage and dedication to do something like this:cool:

Could you do me a huge favour and write a small piece on the 'pre-logistics' of the trip including: UK home insurance, van insurance, US medical cover, visa process and the temporary import process of the van to the States.

Nicky and I will be free to do what we want from January next year so this thread will give us a whole load of ideas.

Good luck(y)

If you need to buy any body armour while you're out there (it's useful for visiting McDonald's restaurants etc) then I would opt for a NIJ IIIA system preferably with a KR1 and SP1 rating too.

I always find it very reassuring if my body armour has a knife resistance capability as I can mingle in the shopping malls with reassurance.(y)

Our first day here on Cordorus State Park near Gettysburg. We need to get the scooter and electric bikes out of the garage and place back on the rear wall. Then sort all the various stuff back to it proper lovatiol. You can carry items but everything must be out of view to look like a empty vehicle.
Does not help with poor weather all this week, hot and sticky with too much rain.
I will post procedures and costs for our 8mtr van soon.

Check out the Escapees RV Club, it's based in Livingstone, Texas, if you join, it gives you an address for driving licence, insurance etc they are great folks, very helpful. They also have a number of their own sites scattered around the States, safe and reasonably priced, good luck. Alan Moffatt

First impressions.People very friendly and curious.Often explaining about our unusual RV with steering wheel on the wrong side.
May need to get a info leaflet to give out before we tire of same conversation.
In fact the customs officer at JFK airport could not understand how I could drive legally and safe with opposite wheel.
Looks like the provisions cost more ,about 50% more approximately.
When at Camping World the customers were taking pictures .
Purchased a campsite rocking chair ! and joined Good Sams Club for discounted sites and full breakdown cover.

I can recall a very funny situation a few years back when I was living with an American team and I walked into the office to find them squabbling with each other.

Why, you may ask............because the cost for a US gallon of gas had just hit an all-time record of $2.70.

The same US gallon in the UK was circa $6.20 so the Brit contingent just smiled and left them to their debate:D

If I was to earn a living here then a national flag manufacturers would be a good place to start. They are everywhere ,Nearly every house has at least one and many seem to be in competition with others to display the most. You would think it was a special day or festival, obviously ultra patriotic.

Hi Blue Knight
We had to ship with empty gas and quarter of deisel.I filled up asap.Firstly,I noticed the deisel pump handle is green not black and petrol is black not green.
I paid 2.99 for a gallon @ approx 3.8 litres per gallon. It took 19 gallons/ 72 litres for 57 dollars. Therefore in Maryland it is 80 cents litre and say 85 pence to the dollar .So 85% of = 68 pence per litre.
Done this on the move so correct me if I'm wrong .
