so we’ve decided to have short break this W end I’ve opened up the hatch where the Elektroblock and heat exchanger is and there’s pink fluid sat there, is this from the heat exchanger?

Left the heating on and it’s not putting any heat out or just a little, bled all the nipples and there is liquid there, do I now need to dump the whole system?
It’s gonna be -2 tonight so a bit cheesed off, all I seem to have done the last week is totting up all the jobs I need to sort out

Ok after freezing my nuts off, resetting everything it seems I’m getting heat, what will the pink fluid coming out of the heat exchanger be,anti freeze ? Nothing else since I’ve wiped it up has come out , think I need to give the systems an overhaul,

Yes it's antifreeze g13 I think is the one for your system around £8.99 a litre

In your bathroom there is a long radiator I would try and bleed this one first with the pump running flat out for 5/10mins on speed 3 if you can get to the switch in the cupboard in the garage .as that' s the highest point of the system
If you try to bleed the system on the other rads in the van you will draw in more air

The alde system is a tricky system to bleed when they service them they use a pump to force the air out while they refill with antifreeze.
If you can get some air out of the radiator in the bathroom this might see you through the weekend with some heat

Cheers thanks for your help, the pump was turning but no heat, seems the boiler may have locked out.
Need to check out the pink fluid, think you might be right funflair due to it being part of the heat exchanger/engine just not sure why it has dumped into the locker, heat exchanger may have sprung a leak, engine steady temp on the way here though
And no more fluid escaped

If the level of coolant on your alde side has not reduced then I’d check the level of your engine coolant as I had the very same problem, pink fluid in my locker. Turned out to be the heat exchanger pump had a very small leak. Was a bugger to change but managed it. If you need any help give me a shout. The main issue was the position of the pump was half way inside a locker so literally had to slide half my body inside the locker and only just fit but this meant literally no arm movements to be able to work inside the locker!!

is this a common problem?@ dpsuk99 thanks for the offer I suspect it will be a nightmare, like you say it’s half way between two lockers,
Did you drain the full engine coolent to carry out the work?
Where did you purchase the pump from

Regards
Mark

Ps at least we had heating last night in the end:cold:

I had noticed my engine coolant reducing ever so slightly over a 6 month period but didn’t have a clue where it was going as never a drip on the drive until I noticed a bag which has the safari room in was stained reddish and slight leak in the locker where the pump was located.
I didn’t need to drain the engine coolant as I simply used pipe clamps on the flow and return:

I then cut the pipes and replaced the pump. Here is the pump from Alde, think they wanted £280 +vat:

But I managed to find out it is a Johnson 12v magnetic driven centrifugal circulation pump. Here are a few suppliers with varying prices:

This is the pump spec I used:

The pump needs to be installed at a specific angle but the original pump was not installed correctly (I’m my view) which may have been a cause of a small leak.

Hope this helps.

So @dpsuk999 I guess that's the pump to run the water around your engine block to preheat in the depths of winter.

Thanks for that dpsuk99, like you said it doesn’t seem to happen all the time, this is the first time I’ve noticed it, and only the second time out n the van though, thanks for all that info much appreciated, just need to confirm it is the pump

We had the same problem on ours but the leak was coming from the top of the heat exchanger we have a ball valve fitted to the top so you can turn the flow on or off and it had a small crack in the side of it were it was connected to the exchanger no sign of the leak when cold but once heated up it would start to drip.

If you have no pipe clamps use two pairs of mole grips with some thin wood/plastic between jaws to do the same.
