Van failed M O T

Our van just failed its MOT because the horn wasn't working .so check yours before you take it .

I suppose at least it’s something easily fixed. Never a good feeling when you hear that word “fail” though.

On our old motorhome (Autosleeper) I checked everything religiously before I took her for an MOT, bloody horn actually failed during the MOT itself!
The tester gave it a bit of a wiggle & it worked, so a pass was awarded with the proviso that I fit a new horn.

I think its the only time our horn gets used is at its mot. So as you say well worth checking before.

I was alarmed to hear my car FAILED! It was because two of the characters on the number plate were deemed the wrong distance apart! :unsure:

Long ago, I made the mistake of taking my 1962 Sunbeam Alpine for a Warrant of Fitness (Kiwi MoT) without the Hard Top on.

It failed! no Sun Visors. I had to go home fit the Hard Top which had the Visors, take it back, PAY AGAIN!!! to get the WoF. The Macnic wouldn't accept it with the Soft Top up either because that didn't have visors either.

Oh dear I hope it is just the horn unit itself as it can be very expensive if its a fault within the wheel and the clock spring etc is faulty

I always "help" my MOT tester, by sitting in and doing the lights etc. This year he didn't ask me to test the horn so I reminded him: fortunately it worked!

The garage failed it fixed it then passed it we saw it on the MOT site before the garage rang to tell us this morning .

Checked everything but the bloody horn can't remember when last used it will check next time the van is knocking on just glad that's all they found wrong.

i fitted a set of train horns behind the grill of a previous van. took it for it's mot and the old boy that watched for the lights and indicators nearly had a heart attack when the horn was sounded. the boss also came out of the office to ask "what the f... was that?" it passed though

I had a friend fit a submarine Klaxon (used to wake everybody up to dive the submarine) on a mk 2 Capri. The small garage where he took it were impressed until all the dust and spiders started falling from the rafters. Was told to not bring it back again. ????

The law requires an audible warning instrument (I know cos I got fined and 3 points when I was 16 on my moped) it doesn't stipulate what kind!
Open your window, open yer gob and shout "gerrout the way"...... Audible enough! Problem solved.

It obviously didn't work for me either.

Ducato/Boxer position of horn unit means it always gets wet and I guess the terminals corrode then the whole thing that's up. Another design failure.

Thanks.
As PJ O'Rourke said,when driving in the third world, you use your horn in only the following three instances:
1. When a vehicle, pedestrian or other obstruction is in your way;
2. When a vehicle or pedestrian is heading towards you;
3. At all other times.
