Calling all you self builders out there. Who are you using for insurance. I assume you start out with van insurance and then after conversion and reclassification with DVLA switch to (hopefully ) cheaper motorhome insurance.
Any advice appreciated

Try AIB they cover your vehicle as a conversion giving you 12 weeks from start to finishing IE covered as a van and adding value as things get done/put in until finished
If it’s going to take longer then make sure you tell them from the start so they can adjust price etc. Once completed you can ask for agreed value insurance 👍very important or if you have a claim insurance will try to pay you for an empty van not a van conversion.
Agreed value will mean sending pics and details of conversion then agreeing with insurance what your conversion is worth😉

You will start off as a van, and if DVLA decide it is not still a van it will become a van with windows which won't make any difference to your insurance and more or less any insurance firms will take it on, my preference is NFU but there are many others.
