Asked jim this question and he told me that if you put the provided key in place and using a wide headed flat screwdriver you can undo them and replace the batteries with hearing aid batteries,give them a good squirt of wd40 and let them soak,this will make them easier to dismantle

I've got the TyrePal system which is exactly the same. Using the tool it's a doddle, did it at the side of the road when one battery failed. But careful you don't lose any bits, it's all a bit small. Also make sure you get the right batteries, they're a bit bigger than "hearing aid" types and not all battery retailers carry them.

If you get stuck I believe Jim will replace the batteries at cost.
Stick them in an envelope, with a return envelope, and post to him.
