Morning all from a very hot Spain☉☉

We are heading across the Rioja region towards Northern Portugal and so far used only Aires either on Camper Contact or in All The Aires. Just wondering about general behaviour on these places. In France the French seem to have a laissez faire attitude to the rules but here in Spain the 'No Camping Activities' (so tables, chairs outdoor cooking etc.) Seems to be observed. We dont want to flout the rules and upset our hosts. Just wondered if this is the norm over here. We are going to be heading through Portugal towards Porto and then round the coast back towards Santander over the next 3 weeks. It would be nice to be outside the van in such beautiful weather and surroundings.

Wild camping anyone ?? Especially around the Northern Spanish coast.

We've wild camped in many places in Spain and if you're really wild camping and not parked with hordes of others there shouldn't be a problem to sit outside. We've done this many times, so do people picnicking from their cars. The problems begin when groups of motorhomes start to camp together and outstay their welcome in more ways than one.

We've used lots of Aires in Spain and always abide by the rules...thus we have never put chairs or tables out. Very often in Spain there are picnic tables and chairs close by for the use of people wanting to eat out. If we want to sit out we usually go to a campsite. Have a great holiday!!

I agree with abiding by the rules on Spanish Areas but if you're wild-camping, far from civilisation, a chair outside to sit on for a few hours is perfectly acceptable.

Sadly, I believe this may be the cause of problems with the locals (in most places not just Spain)....many people take advantage of situations and don't abide by the rules.....we tend to behave on the Continent as we do here that is to say...we abide by the rules and respect the facilities offered and in that way they remain available....breaking the rules is often counter productive and very disrespectful...and may mean that facilities are withdrawn.

One thing we try to do is to separate ourselves away from the 'van if we can.
Sit outside the van with table and chairs out and "You're with the van"
Sit 20 yards away, and especially if there is another/other vehicles in that spot and "Who are you"
You've still got the convenience of the van without announcing it to the World.
