Using the mifi as per thread title. The following problem is now becoming a lot more frequent and has reached being a bit of a nuisance.

I try to access some ( increasing in number ) websites and am blocked from reaching them , via getting the message "insecure" ( showing a warning triangle at the side of the message ...with the URL now automatically directed to the huawei app page ........... 192 .168.8.1 No further detail or info as to "why" the re direction has taken place , or what setting to change .

Ive taken the sim card / s out of the mifi , then tried them in to a couple of different phones , then attempted connecting to the previously blocked websites using the phones and all is fine , they connect to the websites ok.

Have looked on line and the nearest I get to a "solution" is (a) to check the time /date on the gadget the sim card is actually in. (All those are ok ) .. Or (b) the blocked websites are set up wrong , ie , apparently they are not set up for https , but set up for http........This doesnt seem to stop the sites being reached when the sims are in any gadget other than the mifi.

So it all seems to be pointing towards mifi set up being wrong somewhere.... Have tried resetting the mifi to factory settings , still the same .

Any body else had this problem and have any solution

I've just checked the mifi setting in a web browser (the only way to access full settings), nothing there that would cause that problem.
Have you tried the sim in the same device you are connecting to the mifi with?
I not it could be security software on the device causing the problem.

I would guess at the settings in the browser you're using to access the web via the mifi. The settings on your phone could be different as you'll probably be using mobile data to connect as opposed to wifi.

Hi Lenny and Gellyneck.........Am mainly using a laptop ( no sim card slot in it) using Win 10 to connect to the mifi ...... Possibly a security setting in the lap top then? That actually might explain "part" of the problem , as any of the sim cards ( three different networks) tried in the mifi , gets the " insecure " and redirected URL . Which is why I was leaning towards it being a mifi setting problem.........However as you mention , it might well be a security setting or browser setting in the win 10 laptop .

What browser are you using on your laptop?

Just a year
It might be the SIM. There were a few sites that my mobile provider considers 'adult content', even though they aren't. I have not bothered to contact them but apparently all you do is prove you are over 18 somehow.

Yes, I've come across this. Couldn't get onto Motorhome Fun until I proved I was over 18! When I asked why I was told that it applied to any site which offered anything for sale. I have to say I was surprised.

Hi all , sorry about delayed reply , had to go out..... I use chrome browser, on laptop and also on my phone.... As an example ,using the laptop , via the mifi , the last site which had barred access , ie "not secure" and redirected to mifi log on page , was https://www.customshopdesigns.com/ . Which is a motorhome /conversion van website, so not what could be designated "adult content" . Using phone , same site , same browser , site accessed with no problem .

Tried firefox browser on laptop, site accessed no problem...So it looks like a setting in chrome , in laptop is possibly the culprit

Think Chrome could be your problem as Google made a number of changes around non-https websites and other security "concerns".
I would suggest you try Mozilla Firefox as an alternative browser. If you set it to "https" websites only it flags up where there is only an "http" website and gives you the option to connect anyway.
You can download and install from here - https://www.mozilla.org/en-GB/firefox/new/
I've used it for years with no problems. Think Lenny HB is a Firefox user as well.

Thanks :giggle:.. Thats the site ...When you replied I was in the process of actually editing my post to say that I tried firefox and that it worked..So it does look like it is chrome ( specifically via gadgets connected to the mifi ) that is the problem ..., I used firefox for years before migrating to chrome , also use opera browser from time to time with no problems....So think I might just go back to using them instead of chrome(y)

Glad you're sorted. (y) Opera is another good option (son uses it) along with Vivaldi. Both Chromium based browsers along with the latest version of Microsoft Edge which, of course, is the "default" browser that comes with Windows 10. If you're into blocking trackers, etc another good option is Brave.

Browser wars are so last century
I use Chrome widely on a few Windows environments.
If you’ve now got sites getting redirected in one browser and another works, then maybe it’s just cached settings/cookie from the previous http/https connection messing up the new attempt.
Not had the exact same redirect issue myself but in Chrome fixing http/https can be cured chrome://net-internals/#hsts

Or MS Edge 👍🏻

NOT a browser war then.
But I'll add some words so the choice made above is maybe explained.
Chrome is a more secure for your passwords and Firefox is safer, for example, regarding data held in cookies - like info that would be used for targeted ads.
i.e. (JFF) if you're a bloke and don't mind perfume & bra ads use Firefox.
I don't mind getting targeted ads so I use Chrome and get the account & password warnings for them being linked to hacks or them being less secure due to simplicity or my over use of a password.#
I also have a Google voice assistant, use Chrome in more than one place so having a linked profile suits me. ymmv

Some references (they're approx. no older than 12month and newer - the browser feature war never really ended so some info could be dated): -

Are you using a phone sim or a dedicated mifi one ?
