Morning, left home to start heading to doncaster over several days but now sitting beside a dual carriage way with a delaminated tyre, waiting for the Rac to arrive. We have a sticker in the cab which gives the tyre pressures for 225/70/R15 tyres but the tyres are actually 215/70/R15c tyres - are these comercial vehicle tyres or camping tyres and should they be replaced with the type on the cab sticker? Anyone have any idea? Have limited internet acess so not able to trawl through lots of previous posts so any info gratefully recieved

we have never fitted 'camper' tyres, our chassis is the same as a van, we fit van tyres

but I would suggest changing both on same axle in your situation to avoid doubt

it would also be useful for you and us to know what age stamp is on your failed tyre?

best of luck, hope you get sorted quickly (y)

Has the vehicle been uprated from 3500kg to 3850kg at any time. Part of the uprating may have been a change of tyres on the back axle to uprate from 2000kg to 2240kg hence the label in the van.
Are the tyres the same on the back as the front this may explain the confusion.

The tyres you have fitted are commercial tyres as they have suffix C not cp .
You can replace with either as long as the load and speed index covers your vehicle weights ,
the numbers you have posted are just different sizes . It is usual for larger sized tyres to carry more load , over a same construction smaller size . The 225 is slightly wider and also slightly taller than the 215 .

Forgot to mention , that it will require fitment of same tyres on all axles . so you have 215 atm a so that is what will need fitting now , so decision on other size is not an immediate one .

We have only had the van a few weeks so no idea re weights being uprated. Rac man turned up now and escorting us to a layby to replace the damaged on then go to get the otherside done. The Rac man said the date is 1 15, feels much safer in the layby!
Thanks for all your help you awsome people!

Hope it all gets sorted quickly, are they fitting your spare?

Where in the country are you, we might be able to direct you to a local known supplier ?

That date stamp, suggests the tyre was made in week 1 of 2015, so should be the reason for failure

The Rac man has taken Duncan and the wheel to get a new one fitted, when he's fitted that we will go back and get the other rear tyre changed, uuuummm *hangs head in shame* we didn't have a spare when we got the van and not got round to getting one - buuuut we will be! We are in cornwall but they've just returned and its being refitted now. Thanks again ?

Who carries spare wheels now?
I do!
Our moho was supplied with a spare when we purchased it new and I bought a spare for the toad.

My son bought a new Volvo which didn't have one so I got him one.

I had a tyre delaminate on the way down to Upton a couple of years ago, the other wheel on the same axle conveniently did the same on our return journey. :(

We need an 'uh -oh unhappy face' button for that!
? we are back on the road now and actually a lot smoother and quieter so should even make the wool shop for crochet supplies in plenty of time ??
Thanks again peep's ?

I hope you mean

should NOT be the reason for failure

I did of course mean as you say, which I swear I typed and the bloody auto correct thought it knew better ?

We had to buy a spare wheel & Tyre for our new van, dealer quoted £400, got ours luckily on Gumtree from a motor home owner that had just traded in his 3rd van after only owning each one for 6 months:eek:Tyre and wheel like new, although different tyre make, but will do for emergency spare.
A Tyrepal TPMS solar set would be next on my list if I was the OP, cant beat having that peace of mind as it gives you an early indication of a tyre problem.
