updating Oyster satellite

has anyone downloaded and done updates themselves please?

I've seen that this can be done but worried if I follow the instructions I might find it getting stuck up or something.

Mine used to be able to be updated over the air and Oystertech were very helpful, Paul. However, last time around, I was informed that it was not supported OTA and would need a visit. As we don’t often use it, I decided not to bother. 2014 system on mine just yet but would certainly make and appointment with them if we plan on being near or going past

If your box has usb I think you can still update yourself or by the serial port, I bit the bullet and bought the upto date command box which was under 400€ now works from app on phone updates automatically and works great here in Spain, simple swop out with the old box.
Sold my old box on eBay for £250 so not a bad upgrade.
