Well over the last couple of weeks he has been back a forward to the vets, anyway on Friday took him in with a urine sample and his kidneys are not working as they should do so tomorrow up early and he has to go in for a blood test to try and analysed why.

I hope all can be sorted as his back legs are going wonky which is a disaster for a huge dog.

Fingers xxxx

What's really difficult/upsetting is his brain is still young but the body old.

S'pose a lot of us can identify with that:Sad:

hi John with his back legs going and kidneys shutting down I think it may be time to do your best friend the greatest of favours. I know how hard it will be for you but the old boy has had a good run and things are not going to improve for him. Look out for him one last time. I am sorry if that sounds harsh but you know it makes sense. Our thoughts are with you.

Roger let's see what happens when the vet sees if he can medicate his kidneys, they seem positive but know he has arthritis in his rear legs.

I had to watch my dad suffer, not again to a loved one.

Got all the bits crossed here for you and Bruno John...

Really hoping it is nothing major mate, but do listen to the vet and take on board whatever he says..
Remember, his advise will be based on what is best for Bruno

Best of luck tomorrow and hope you get some positive news. Hardest decision we had to make when we let our Bootsie go (avatar) and you'll know when the time comes, let's hope it's some way off yet.

I just did a double take there! - 2 days for the results?

Been to the docs this morning to give em an armful for hosp next week - but at the docs they always say give it a week!!!! How come if you are a St Bernard it's 2 days!!!!!

OK I know you have to pay at the vets and the NHS is 'free' Ha bloody Ha - but even so .......

PS Hope it's summat simple John! - but trouble is mate, as they get older .......

non as yet, hired in Canada a couple of times. hope to buy in the next few years.
Hoope He's OK John. I had Jess to the vets last week It was taking her all her time to stand up, He gave here some arthritis medicine and shes like a pup again so hopefully Bruno will be the same.

Anyway here's a card from my 3 to Bruno.

Sedge...We pay €55 + the cost of the pills ( as we don't have a medical card) to see the doc and €24 + prescription for the vet.

Sue, you are obviously in Eire as you are paying in Euros so the NHS doesn't apply anyway, any more than it would were you a native of France or Spain. Not sure of the relevance of the medical card? which is just a UK thing isn't it? or did you mean the EHIC - wouldn't you get one of them if you went abroad, same as we do?

But anyway - when you think it is completely potty, I mean think of the variety of species a vet has to be able to treat! - reptiles, cats, dogs, fishes, birds etc ..... am assuming different vet for large animals eg horses or cattle - whereas a doctor only has to know about one!

And I would think 24Euros is blooming cheap, isn't it a lot more expensive here? I think 55 Euros for a doctor or vet visit sounds much more like what I would expect for either if I had to pay! Cost me 60 Aus$ just to get a doc to issue a scrip in Brisbane a couple of years back to replace some meds I'd lost during the journey, and I had the copy of the UK scrip with me, all he had to do was check it was me, find them on his puter, tick the boxes and print the scrip!
