Years of Caravan, now got our new Malibu PVC
I recently updated the maps in the inbuilt Uconnect 10 in my 2024 van, and thought that the procedure might be of interest to others.
First you have to go to stellantis.navshop.com/#/downloads
Select Fiat Ducato, and the only option is Uconnect 5, choose this as maps are the same.
Download the Europe map, it will take ages, but eventually you will get a large zip file. Unzip this to a folder of your choice and you will find 7 large files and 3 small ones.
Next get a usb stick of at least 32GB, I used a 64 GB, it must be empty and formatted using FAT32.
Copy the 10 files directly to the stick, not in a folder.
Go to the van, switch on the ignition, and insert the stick into the central usb port under the heater controls.
It will ask you if you want to update, answer yes and some other questions, then the download will begin, it will take nearly an hour.
A couple of times the ignition switched itself off, but I simply switched it on again and the download continued to the end.
I have heard that you need to leave the engine running to force the ignition to stay on, but I was not going to leave the engine ticking over for an hour. Also some say do it during a journey, but I found that as soon as the van was moving the download stopped.
Anyway, my method worked for me, and I now have the latest software and maps dated 29/07/2025.

Thanks PeteandCher -

I've just done this, and it worked beautifully!

A note for Mac users: your USB stick needs to have just the contents of the ZIP file on it, otherwise the satnav will complain that 'the map on your USB device has been altered'. This is because the Finder tends to put various hidden files in the directory, and you may need to go through and delete any files or directories like .DS_Store, .fseventsd, .Spotlight-V100 and any files beginning ._ .

There are Mac utilities to tidy up these hidden files, or you can probably do it from the command line, but I put the USB stick in my Linux machine to tidy them up.

eh?

I'm confused.

I've a MY20 ducato with,, 7" touch screen media thing from factory.

To update that I had to go to the fiat site, download some weird fiat software to download, create a USB stick, which then "broke" the unit and licensing and it took ages with 1-2-1 video call with the makers DAIICHI - and they had to generate me a unique download licensed to my unit. Had to argue to get it as the updates were only free for a short period.

Its tomtom maps but with different software.

We never actually use it, as TomTom on the phone with Android Auto works 1000x better (live traffic/cams etc) so its a bit of a mute point, but wonder if this method will also work? I'm scared of it failing again lol.

It still lists the toolbox as the method? https://www.fiatnavigation.com/en/fiat-ducato/

So is this method you post specific to different models or work on the same? How come its free and not paid map update?

My unit looks like this, but in English :) Mostly.

There is a good video on this map updates on YouTube from Bob Earnshaw.

I have had the Ducato 7 inch display, and it did not have a built-in satnav, only Android Auto and Apple Carplay. As far as I am aware, only the newer 10 inch and old 5 inch had the satnav built-in.

Your picture looks suspiciously like the older 5 inch. If it's a 7 inch screen, then I don't recognise it as an original Ducato fit - which might explain why your download 'broke' the unit. But I'm happy to be wrong!

100% its original ducato - I ordered the van from Fiat myself and the "sportivo" model included the optional 7" unit with satnav

Here is a walkaround where the van was brand new, just delivered, showing the nav unit

I just use Apple CarPlay and either Google Maps or Waze, no need to faff around downloading updates. When I got the van in 2024 I took one look at setting up the built in navigation system and decided not to bother. As far as I am concerned Apple CarPlay and Android Auto have made other navigation systems redundant.

Interesting quentinsf

I did this following the procedure from the Tom Tom website and used a Mac to flash the USB and didn't have any issues.

Perhaps I just got lucky!

Yes, I'm almost always using CarPlay too. However, I still like having this one working and up to date for a few reasons:

1. It works when I'm out of phone coverage.

2. If memory serves, I was able to program in the dimensions of the vehicle, so it's less likely to take me under very low bridges!

3. I've found the carplay connection a bit flakey. I can always solve it by rebooting the radio, and I've got pretty good at selecting the relevant menu items while travelling down the motorway and hoping everything reconnects before my next turn! But if I've also set my destination on the built-in system, I can rely on that coming back more quickly.
I'm pretty sure the carplay is a bluetooth connection. Has anyone managed to use it over the wired USB link? I expect that would be more stable...

I use the wired link, never had any lost connection problems.

But I don't see any evidence that it's using the wired link for anything other than charging, so I assumed it was still doing carplay over Bluetooth. Will have to explore further.
(Mine is always plugged in because of the overheating problems with the wireless charger)
