Starting to understand
Had my Rapido 883F for 2 weeks, have loaded some stuff in the garage & inside, half full of water & half of diesel, so thought i would take to the weigh station & see how much i have left for clothes, food etc..... Nope not a good idea it's a 3500,kg but it now ways 3520kg!!!! Front & rear are fine but total no. So i thought up plate to 3850 that will be enough, yes can do but i need an air assit kit & new tyres load of 112, mine are new & 109, cant find 112 to fit my wheel size 215/70 R15, so now new wheels too!!!! It's getting expensive. Anyone have any idea's or advice who have been in this situation? Many thanks Ken

Try putting in 225 70 15 they will fit just a bit wider 😊👍
And they will make your speedo more accurate.

Another plus is that you can even get 116 Load rating in a 225 x 70 x 15.

That 'might' get you out of having to fit Air Assist. Don't know the van so can't give a certainty.

If the front and rear axles are fine you don't need air or new tyres.
You only need the air and tyres if want to increase the rear axle weight to 2240.

Took our Aspire 225 to 3850 kg needed 225/70/r15 tyres which will fit perfectly well in place of 215/70/15’sto get the 3850 kg but if you want 2240 on the rear axle you will have to fit semi air. I think you will find you cannot get to 3850 with 215/70/r15 but you can get to 3650 with them as done by Glossops as a free upgrade paper excersise when we bought it new in 2012.

No i wanted 3850kg not 2240, but can only go 3700kg, which i dont think is enough.

With respect the 2240 is the loading on the rear axle only. you can get a total 3850 kg gross but you would then have to be careful you did not overload the rear axle. but if you then fit semi air you can 2240 on the rear axle which makes loading easier. On our Aspire 255 the way of the layout you would be hard pushed. To distribute the load at 3850 without overloading the rear axle.

Oooo, didn’t need to do a thing apart from paperwork to get our Vantage PVC from 3500 to 4250. It have 225x16 on the Fiat heavy chassis though. 🤔

We up rated our A class Burstner IEXO 2019 from 4000KG to 4500KG requiring just a paper exercise as its on the Fiat Heavy chassis. With with 225/75/r16 tyres. It’s a lot different on 215/70r15

Air assist also makes for a nicer ride. Van Weight Engineering, these are the people to speak to, though email often proves quicker.
As said, 2240 on the rear makes loading easier, even if you don't need to bother the full 4090kg available. Is it an AL-KO chassis, as that will be a lot more expensive for air assist?
Mike.

If you used SV Tech be aware they will tell you that you need modifications. Told me I needed air-assist to uprate my PVC, which was untrue. I got the paperwork from a now-deceased specialist and needed no modifications.
For my current van I used Van Weight Engineering and I was really happy with the service. I believe Dee will provide an honest opinion.

Have to say their service and comparative costs make it a no brainer now. Really quick thorough and cheap

Yep, I changed from 215.70.15 to 225.70.15 and my spare wouldn't fit into the underslung holder. I had to increase the holder size by about 20mm. And yes my speedometer is almost totally accurate now 👍

70 is the height of the wall as a percentage of the width so wider the tyre the larger the diameter is.
thanks... your correct ,,its 1\2 inch bigger i never thought that would make much difference to speedo readings ,,i went from 15in normal tyres to 16 in off road bfg massive differences in size 61mm and my speedo only changed readings by 2 --3 mph going of the sat nav ,,
