We have recently had air assist put on the rear of our van and we have a report from JR Consultancy, John Ruffles.

Now I need to fill in the V5 to send to DVLA and hope for the best!!!

Has anyone got any tips on how best to do this?

I presume I just put the new revenue weight in ie 4000KG? What to I put for taxation class "Private Heavy Goods" or PHG? Is there anything else i need to do or beware of? Sorry for the questions but with DVLA going slow I don't really want to mess it up! I'm thinking SV Tech might of been easier!

Thanks

PHG is fine, you will need to send JR's statement of compliance and a copy of the new plate.
Then sit back and wait for at least 4 months.
Then send it back and wait another four months when they only update the revenue weight and not the gross weight

Erm you fill me with confidence 😱🤣! Might be a covering letter in!

Yes explain to them in words of one syllable you need the Max Permissible Mass entering on line F.1

You also need to fill out a V70 (Application to change vehicle tax) and enclose a cheque for the new vehicle revenue weight mine was £165 per year. You cannot start a direct debit from day one of your new tax class.

Oh I haven’t heard that before! I don’t think I have a cheque book? 😱

Have they changed the system?
When I uprated my last van I didn't sent any payment they just sent me a cheque for the refund of the difference, did take them 5 months. That was in normal times goodness knows how long it will take now.

I think there is some confusion out there. I did ring the DVLA but he was clueless!

our complication maybe that we are paying the road tax monthly?

I did. Change of taxation class can be done by setting up a direct debit at a post office in person. Things may be different if you are upplating at the time.

In theory they should cancel your dd when they process your application BUT it is DVLA anything could happen.

Don't want to be the voice of doom but mine was sent on the 8th March(2020) and nothing back yet, re sent in Sept and still nothing back good job I like many other can't go anywhere but a nice man at DVLA says I can still tax and drive my van at 3500kgs limit, could not get him to understand why I wanted it upgrading! talk about going round in circles will be resubmitting again in Nov! hey ho!

Nope everything! Photocopies and scans kept luckily! Sept sent registered post this time to be signed for! I used JR for my last van no problem, this time a firm a bit nearer to home ( No names as its the DVLA for the delay)

I carried out my updating December 2019 I had been paying monthly by Direct Debit but was told to cancel this once I had sent in my completed paperwork, SV Tech provided me with guidance and instruction for the whole process.

If paying annually or 6 monthly in a single payment DVLA tax exchange form V70 must be completed and sent with the torn off left side of your V5 along with a cheque for either 6 or 12 month tax. If your paying by direct debit it’s a different procedure check the DVLA site

DVLA fell off the shelf when they closed the local offices.
A visit to an office could sort almost all your enquiries and problems while you waited.

Just to add (cannot edit my previous post) Once you come to the end of the 6 or 12 month tax period you can then revert to Direct Debit. Photo copy all your documents prior to sending to DVLA and send Recorded Post

@Stewart J Did you send the V70 off with your V5c for change of revenue weight and tax class at the same time.

Or did you wait for the V5C to change?

Got the V70 filled in ready to go!

You need to send all the paperwork with cheque at same time in same envelope or they will not process your application as said photo copy everything and send recorded post.

So I sent off all my details for the up plate along with a nice letter about section f1 max permissible mass.

So I received my V5C two days ago, I am now a PHGV at revenue weight of 4000kg gross but yes despite the letter F1 is 3499 max permissible mass. Argghh! I thought sending them the letter would sort it first time but maybe everything with the tax change etc was just too much! To top it off we also received a phone call on 30th Nov to clarify the cancelling of the direct debit tax payment and that they would start the new tax from 1st Dec with the cheque but no they have started it on 30th Nov so not sure if I have lost a months a tax or not so I will ring about this!

And now I need to decide if I should send the V5 back to be amended as it s probably confusing if we get stopped aboard!

On a positive note the turnaround was just over 2 weeks for the up plate at DVLA! (y):giggle:

We did ours in June with JR. Filled in the section of the V5 and enclosed the original of JR's report and invoice for the fitting of the air suspension. The only part I filled in was the change in weight. Then, waited, and waited, and waited. It eventually came back two weeks ago all sorted. We got a credit cheque for the remaining RFL as a PLGV from DVLA and a new log book. We then taxed it as a PHGV.
Only thing I would strongly recommend is sending your documents recorded delivery. Reason being, I called them a week before everything came back and they said they had not received anything from me and that I should apply for a new V5. I had not got around to starting the process when it all dropped through my door done and dusted. I hope this helps you. Good luck 👍

Isn't a shame you cannot use a tracking app like Polar Steps, to track your documents around the DVLA departments, then you could tell them which office waste bin they had chucked it into and make them retrieve it. (y):mad::mad:
