Unwanted Un-Read blog entry indicator (1 Viewer)

I have un-checked the "Display un-read blog entry count" box from my preferences and "saved changes" and I have received the "your changes have been saved" notification after. Then immediately reverts to displaying un-read blog entries again. It is only this tab that I cannot clear.
Any advice on quick fixes or is it just a "Jimism"? @Jim
