Under bench aircon (1 Viewer)

we are a little tight on the roof and thought about putting the box type aircon under the bed space is anyone using this type and if so how do you rate them?

Be wary of putting under bed , as you may want aircon on to sleep !! Ideally aircon should be high , to take in the hot air (rises) and put out cold to sink down .

I have Truma Saphir units, they are not very efficient, nothing like the roof ones we had before. But if that's the only option then that's your choice.

Badly! We won't fit the Dometic ones and the Truma one factory fitted on our last European motorhome was laughable as well

No room on the roof for proper aircon maybe the bix unit is not a good idea can anyone recommend fans that will fit into the standard roof vents maybe fit two

That’s what we wanted but there is not enough space for the top unit length is ok but one side on the vent is only about 90mm from our solar panel

See what you mean , cant the solar just be slid back a bit to give the clearance on the front hatch or is the rear roof light offset ?

It’s tight up against the rear roof vent looks like it will have to be a couple of those turbo roof fans

Would the panel not go crossways at the front?it looks like the cable would be long enough and you wouldn’t need to make any new holes.

You need a split system where the outdoor unit is separate and can be installed elsewhere. But the only ones coming up on Google are "Cool my Camper" or of course house ones. Perhaps the manufacturers are missing a trick

30 years in the RAC BUSINESS ( not the AA’s competition).

I fitted a trauma compact to our 6.5m Hymer.

It’s brilliant. Quiet (sits under Pullman in lounge). Efficient and far prefer it to the roof mounted units.

I did detail it on here somewhere.

I have fitted the exhaust silencer box to mine but still get a bit of a roar from the exhaust vent which can be heard on the next pitch. As to their efficiency I have been rather disappointed with our 2 units and as an expert I would appreciate any comments on best practice install which you have identified with them?

Hi,

It is a Toyota Pollen Filter fitted to the inlet. This will stop all the crap getting sucked into the unit. Truma Should have thought of that and fitted a removable one.

I think the best place to install is away from the main sleeping area. Usually, somewhere in the middle.

Even with Domestic A/C Systems from the likes of Daikin, Mitsubishi etc make some noise. But I do find the rooftop units resonate a lot.

We kept ours on with all the blinds shut in St. Tropez last summer, it was a godsend.

Just been looking at your van on the picture you attached.. Turn the solar panel sideways so it is installed between the back of larger front roof light and the one I am assuming you were intending to install the aircon to behind.

A Dometic freshjet 2200 will literally not overhang any further foward than the existing 40x40 roof light you have installed currently. All the overhang of the aircon unit is overhanging the rear so it would fit. the only thing you may need to do is move your satellite system back a little, or by the picture it does look like an Oyster system so you adjust the lowest pivot able swing on the control panel in the hidden menu (speak to Oyster) so it would not hit the aircon and simply swing over the top of it whilst searching..
