Someone asked me at the weekend if the premium diesels are worth paying the extra fiver a tank for. I said I had no idea, I've never used it, but I knew some people who might know. Is it?

Yes, more additives, increased cetane number and a cleaner burn but not worth the extra in my opinion.
if engines had to run on it they wouldnt sell the normal washing diesel except to farmers.

Equivilent to putting the old 5* petrol in a car that needs 3*

It wont got any faster or use less fuel.

Someone on the forum was banging on about them being better. I did try a tankful on a return trip from north Wales having done the trip there on tesco diesel. Not any difference in consumption or performance, just cost more.
I know it was only an insensitive test, but if you're paying quite a bit more, the difference should be noticeable.

I don't do to many miles in the motorhome so always put the good stuff in when available.

Three years old, 15000 miles and "injector" warning light come on yesterday not really sure it has been one of my best decisions :(

I reckon Jims just too embarrassed to ask now he has a 6.1ltr powerstroke diesel.

The diesel in the States is really low quality so regular diesel here is more than good enough for powerstrokes .

When we had to buy lots for the trucks, I filled up at Tesco, cheaper and got my points and to be honest 8 or 9 to the gallon is was not in there long.

I would say as you will be buying LOADS of it, ;) you do the same.

It might be better, or in it all in the mind, o_O we vary from Shell / BP and Supermarket in the van but never V Power. (y) Bob.

Only ever bought it once by accident. Ouch. Don't see the point as I never keep any vehicle long enough to benefit.

many many years! since I was a kid
you wont see the benefit on an old engine or just the occasional tankful. it contains extra lubricants and cleaners that prevent diesel filters and pipes getting blocked.
cheaper though is to add some 2 stroke oil for extra lubrication and the occasional flush with forte etc before changing the filter cartridge
