Ulez coming to Scotland

ULEZ's will be coming to every city and most major towns right across the UK and EU over the next 5 years.

If you have a pre Euro6/2016 Diesel engine in your M/H you need to be thinking of an upgrade pretty fast.
Certainly within 2023.

The resale value of pre 2016 diesels is already heading downwards from the spring 22 peak.
They could be borderline worthless within 3-5 years as they will be limited to non-urban main roads.

This maybe OK if you live and tour around NW Scotland, but even to get an MOT will mean going into a town at least once a year. Driving abroad will become impossible, as all of the ports will be covered by a ULEZ.

Well if they are serious then I hope they will remove the height barriers at P+R..

Several years ago I phoned Edinburgh Parking Office and after checking with a colleague he assured me the the P+R on the South side had no barrier. Wrong.

I just looked up Exemptions for Historic Vehicles and found

"Some historical vehicles are exempt from LEZ entry requirements. Exemptions will only apply if the vehicle was manufactured or registered under the Vehicle Excise and Registration Act 1994 for the first time at least 30 years ago or if the vehicle is no longer in production and has not been changed from its original state."

My Arto is 20 years-old, out of production and not been changed. It also has an Historic Polish number plate.

Are all four cities going to pay for the right to access foreign registration info?

So you know this for a fact do you ?
Or just mere speculation

As for MOTs I can think of two centres that carry out tests including Motorhomes both out in the sticks within 12 miles of me and neither are anywhere near town centres

That’s going to stop a fair number of Motorhomes from visiting Shetland or Orkney by Aberdeen then. Only way would be via Scrabster Caithness to Orkney then on to Shetland to bypass Aberdeen so more motoring less ferry time. Mad .🤨

so there's a huge cost of living crisis looming which is going to hit Scotland pretty hard, but the SNP thinks they should all buy new cars!!! What planet are they on?
When was it first announced for Glasgow?

Can't open the link but guess it's final implementation of the plan that was published a number of years ago.

From memory it only really takes in the city centre which is a one way system nightmare anyway.

Guess we're just well behind other UK areas that have already introduced these zones.

The bus p+r has hight restrictions.
The railway one at Newcraighall doesn't or didn't in the past but there was a charge to use it.
Both are inside the city bypass so probably stuffed anyway.
Taking any vehicle into the centre of Edinburgh is a last resort anyway.

Fortunately being foreign I would just ignore it.& I doubt the lorries will be bothered unless the Uk wishes to starve?

Not here.

London TFL uses the company EPC which is multi national & can't lie in bed straight to run there system. They will attempt to chase up foreign registered vehicles using information obtained contrary to the gdlp/data `protection act & phrase it as though it comes under the " cross border directive" whilst attempting to enforce penalties that time expired long before they even sent you anything.

Remember that if you wish to enter the London lez or Ulez now you have to register via an account with them & supply copies of your reg documents.

This is pure speculation. You should be more responsible that what you suggest as fact is actually true.

Have you looked at the map? The Ferry Terminal is outside the Zone!

I just had a look at the LEZ map for Aberdeen and it's not too bad. The roads are mainly circled around the main drag in town (Union Street). It won't really have a massive effect.

I've got a 64 plate VW Transporter as my daily drive and a couple of motorbikes to choose from. I have options.

The motorhome is 2018 and god knows what the emissions are, but that wouldn't be going into town anyway.

Below is the map for systems that were supposed to be running by the end of 2022
The pandemic however has delayed many of them by 2 years

In the meantime other cities have announced they will be introducing their own ULEZ's (or CC's etc) including Sheffield.
With a number of other cities yet to give firm dates.

At what age are vehicles excempt?

I've a 33 year old merc that will be mot and road tax exempt in 7 years.

Still vast swathes of the country where restrictions won’t apply

As for all ports becoming ULEZ

Let’s see you post an official link

come on then, which other cities? and which towns? just the facts please?

I certainly haven't seen a drop in the price of pre 2016 campers or vans .

I'd say dinnae panic as a lot can happen in 8 years.

I certainly won't be rushing out to buy a newer van . If anything I buy older

More reliable, cheaper and easier to maintain and often better build quality.

Basildon | Bath | Birmingham | Bradford | Bristol | Cambridge | Canterbury | Coventry | Derby | Exeter | Leeds | Leicester | Liverpool | London | Manchester | Newcastle | Nottingham | Oxford | Portsmouth | Sefton | Sheffield Southampton | St Albans | Warrington | Wokingham | York

In google put in the name of a city and then put ULEZ
You will get a hit on almost any city you care to name.
They are all aware its a case of 'when' not 'if'

Norwich

Durham

Stoke on trent

Coventry

M e too, I'm deeply sceptical of the environmental arguments for scrapping a perfectly servicable motorhome to replace with a newly manufactured one that has marginally better emissions

Still only be in the city centres
Where I live the nearest city is 90 miles

Never need to go anywhere near them .

And where your proof that all ports are going to be ULEZ’s

Still waiting

Nice try but still a long way off your original assertion, and many of them will not halpen anytime soon. can't help but laugh at the Stoke one though, hard to imagine a more grimy place.

Yeah and within a few years it too becomes environmentally unfriendly....so you buy another one

Basically it's just another way to make people spend money that many haven't got.

Meanwhile the bigger polutters rake in millions

The new joke in downing Street wants to open more oil and gas fields in Scotland and the North Sea.

under 2,5T unladen weight exempt in London lez.

Plenty in there state " not required" " no reason to introduce" " Other measures taken" ,"opposed" , " not expected",etc.etc.

The one point that I did not know was that fines must be in relation to the charges & that "" Local authorities will only be able to set charges at levels designed to reduce pollution, not to raise additional revenue beyond recovering the costs of the scheme""

So once the costs of the scheme are covered the charge must reduce to the running cost only? I wonder how many do?
