I may be heading to Greece and wondered if its best to ferry from Ancona to Patras or drive to Athens via hungry etc. Seems very expensive using the Ferries? Any tip on Toll roads etc would also be appreciated. I have a 3ltr unit that may be heavy on the juice. I intend travelling 10pm - 6am to avoid trafic. Any help is appreciated.

Travelling by road to Greece through eastern European countries will require the use of vignette's and I suspect one or two tolls on bridges/Tunnels, depending on route taken. However, this can easily e established by using the following link.

Just select caravan under options and un-tick 'Avoid Toll roads' and select your route. The costs for a class two motorhome will e calculated for the whole journey.

I'm not sure about driving at night, apart from the obvious fact you will miss all the scenery. Going through Hungary, especially Romania (think unlit bullock carts etc) and Bulgaria at night wouldn't be my idea of safe travel. Potholes could be the least of your worries.
