Been a while since I last crossed the Channel. I've got my insurance and breakdown cover sorted and I think I have the other compulsory requirements covered ie Headlight beam benders, UK sticker, no meat, fruit or veg. Have I overlooked anything?

My International Driving Permit has expired. Presumably I don't need one for 2023.

What is the situation with the (not green but white) Green Cards for vehicle insurance?

I believe if you have the old paper license without photo then you need an IDP for certain countries.
For a fiver from the PO it's probably worth getting one.

2 warning triangles for Spain or the flashing light with a radio becon, can't remember what it's called

If your unit is over 3,500kg you will need the Angles Mort stickers. Continental to UK blue cable adapter (2 of them. 1 wired backwards). As many different types of water tap connecter you can carry and a decent length hose. Pet passport if you have a dog or cat. Map book for went the sat nav throws its toys out 9f the pram.

I think you need to have a First Aid kit. Never a bad idea anyway.

forget the meat and dairy thing, they're really not interested, we ve crossed about 10 times, the last time 3 weeks ago, the fridge and freezer were bulging, they dont care.

We also passed several broken down vehicles travelling through Spain and didnt see one with a beacon.

we dont have any emmission stickers, do have Angles Mortes because we are big. bil came through in 4500kgs a class without any.

been travelling through France several times a year for the past 30 years, and never been asked for any of the other stuff, although I do think Hi vis and spare bulbs are a good idea.

For clarity I don't set out to break rules, just do as the French do and only take notice of the sensible ones.

Would you leave your spare wheel behind if you had one?

Flashing warning beacon sold in Spain but not compulsory as yet...I carry one in the MH and the car too...they are very good, but the magnetic base isn't very good on plastic or aluminium bodies....
And for the OP take loads of cash...credit card and have a great time..
😊😃🥳👍

If you mean me? No. spares are essential, however a lot of motorhome manufacturers disagree with me, I suspect not many on here have a spare wheel.

We do...but...I think a Spare tyre is essential, even if you don't carry a wheel...you can get your tyre fitted at most places....saves waiting around till the garage gets the right one...

The only time we needed a spare was when our front tyre suffered a tyre wall failure on a dual carriageway 5 miles from home. By the time I had brought it to a stop the wheel rim was damaged beyond repair. We did not have a spare and recovery took about 5 or 6 hours. In that situation just a spare tyre would have been useless. That is why we now always carry a spare wheel with tyre.

And the emergency repair kit sold with lots of motorhomes wouldn't be a lot of help also...
I've destroyed a few tyres...but thankfully...never caused rim damage...you were very unlucky indeed.

You have to make sure you buy the V16 they are the official one that sends the signal. 🙂 Bob.

My Autosleeper has a spare wheel in a wind down cradle under the centre of the van. This was pointed out by the salesman on handover but he said that a recovery service wouldn't change the wheel, they would just recover the vehicle on a truck. Maybe because the van is 4000kg I guess.

Good to know it's there though. I must try winding it down sometime to stop it rusting up and also to have a look at the tyre.
