Don't they sell the letters, 'U' and 'K' at the hardware stores in France?

Yes but they wouldn't be legal.The only legal one is elliptical with the larger measurement being horizontal. Usual size is 6"x4"

Alright, but,

I can do an ellipse with two pins and a bit of string. Where's the difficulty in sticking a pair of letters on a piece of sticky backed plastic?
